...just asking if anything is new besides the audio tracks. I don't have my HD DVD copy with me to compare.

No. The movie is not even that good so I never understood why it was wanted so bad  I think ive watched my copy twice.
|
Looks like all internet features were ported over as well. Don't understand the point of two lossless tracks but will most definitely be a first day purchase.

Sony is TrueHD now. They have dropped PCM completley.
|
Smart move

Won't double-dip for lossless, but good news for the Blu-only folks.
|
Me neither. I'm most pleased with my HD DVD copy, thank y'all very much!

HD Digest mentions only a TrueHD track.

No, seriously. I've always heard the term "double blind test" but never really knew what it meant. |

This would be very hard to do with one disc, since I believe the selector would have to cycle through the tracks. The problem is, on discs with PCM and even some with TrueHD (Warner's titles), the lossy track is the default, so that's track 1, with the lossless being track 2. So, if there's a commentary or foreign language track, the only switching that can be done is from track 1 to track 2 (not vice versa), and you already know that track 2 is the lossless one. Then, you have discs where the lossless is the default, with a core (DTS) or parallel (DD) track that only plays if the equipment doesn't support lossless. How you would go about switching between those, I don't know. Maybe switch between HDMI and optical output? So, you might need a disc with only 2 separated tracks. I'll go through my collection and see if I can find any. The other way would be with 2 discs in separate players, with the input assignments unknown to the selector. They may even have to be unknown to you, if the players are different and you know what input goes with what. Frankly, I think the single-blind test would be good enough. As long as the selector stays out of sight and keeps his mouth shut, he shouldn't be injecting any bias into the experiment. |
Yes, when you put it that way, a single blind test would be sufficient.

I see. Thanks for explaining it to me, Drexl. :)

I was excited about this when it came to HD DVD because I enjoyed it in the theaters...and then when I started watching it on HD DVD I fell asleep during the movie....sold it the next day....

Was not too crazy about it in the theater (even though the presentation in DLP was kick ass), but when I saw it again at home I liked it better the second time. Probably my expectations being gone helped. |

Last I checked, Amazon was asking like $28 for this. Is there anywhere else it might be up for preorder a bit cheaper? or should I just reserve it at Amazon and hope they drop the price closer to release date?

Cool. I may just preorder it from them, in that case. Thanks, Superman07.

DVD Empire has a scan of the back cover, confirming there is only a TrueHD track.
|
Skip... HD-DVD version is good enough for me. The movie is entertaining, but not good enough to double dip. Will get it when my add-on dies...
|
Lossless is lossless so I'm okay with just a TrueHD track. Besides, with the lack of a PCM track they can either maximize the bitrate of the video or cram in some extra features.
