Hmmm, this turns from a wait for it on sale purchase to a day one purchase for me. Now if Universal can go back and remaster their other titles, they will easily become my favorite BD studio.

PhantomStranger 05-14-08 09:23 PM

With one release they've already passed Warner in their BD quality. Warner is now the only major studio that doesn't include lossless audio on every release.

I didn't want to double dip but I'll give a buddy of mine my HD DVD's and grab these on Blu-ray.. sounds like Universal is doing it right!

DthRdrX 05-14-08 10:06 PM

Damn them.

I have all three of the Mummy films on DVD, D-VHS, and HD-dvd. No idea how that happened.

m0vi3fan 05-14-08 10:06 PM

Sweet! Loved all three movies!

Drexl 05-14-08 11:47 PM

I don't care for the Mummy movies, but that is really great news that they've remastered it. Hopefully this is a sign they'll remaster The Game and Field of Dreams when it comes time to put them out (assuming the issues are due to poor masters).

Supermallet 05-15-08 12:38 AM

I wouldn't count on a remaster/lossless audio for all the catalogue re-releases. This is clearly being done to tie-in with the upcoming third Mummy film.

PopcornTreeCt 05-15-08 03:03 AM

All these threads for these crappy movies and my There Will Be Blood thread gets merged with the Paramount thread. Ah well.

They'll definitely re-do some of them, but I doubt we'll get "Scent of a Woman" with DTS HD MA. Bourne, King Kong, Hulk, Children of Men...I'd say so.

Supermallet 05-15-08 06:15 AM

I presume they'll redo Hulk to tie in with The Incredible Hulk. I would hope they completely redo King Kong to include the extended cut and the missing special features.

Brian Shannon 05-15-08 07:15 AM

Finally a disc that I actually want

Jericho 05-15-08 07:19 AM

It would be cool if they really re-did the movies nice, but I remain skeptical. I'll see if the reviews think there's a real improvement of not. I guess the DTS-MA track is nice, but I'd look for more to upgrade.

rexinnih 05-15-08 08:05 AM

This will be mine.

XavierMike 05-15-08 08:36 AM

I still haven't upgraded from the DVD, so this seems like a great reason to.

This has been hinted at on blu-ray.com from one of the insiders as a possible release for this year.

Mr. Cinema 05-15-08 05:46 PM

Specs for the Mummy Returns added to OP. Looks like both will have a free ticket for the third film. Nice.

Yeah, looks like Universal is pulling out all the stops to make a good first impression on BD. Hopefully their work will be consistent throughout the year.

Mr. Cinema 05-29-08 09:19 PM

Cover art for both films added to OP. Looks good.

darkside 05-29-08 09:51 PM

I'll be interested in the reviews, but doubt I will upgrade my HD DVDs for the first two films. However, I am glad that Universal is improving their releases on BD. There are other films I like more that I definitely will upgrade for DTS Master Audio.

mdc3000 05-29-08 10:11 PM

I like those covers, looks classy. I can't wait for these! (I hope we get some more Uni announcements soon - for getting into the blu-ray biz, they sure haven't announced much yet)

rexinnih 05-29-08 10:56 PM

I was already getting these but those covers are nice!

mike2 05-30-08 08:22 AM

Everyone seems to like the covers. I guess I'm the only one who dislikes them. I don't like the small artwork in a box. If they made it take up the whole case, I'd like it. I'll still get it though!

m0vi3fan 05-30-08 09:15 AM

I wonder if they will do a bundle like on sd with mummy, mummy returns and scorpian king.

Jamers 07-09-08 04:43 PM

Amazon is listing these for $19.95 each. So each one includes a movies ticket? I wonder if BB, CC, Walmart, or Target might have a better price the debut week? I have to give props to Universal for remastering and including a DTS-MA soundtrack by picking these 2 up in the first week.
