Sony PS3 region codes (Hong kong)

I am currently living in Hong Kong and want to pickup a HK version PS3. What is the region code situation with the PS3 for both standard and blue-ray discs? Is it region coded and if it is can I break it with a remote code or software update?

I have a lot of region 1 standard dvds from the US I want to play on it to enjoy the up conversion capability.

the PS3 is region-locked for both DVD and Blu-ray. i'm fairly certain there is no known way to make it region-free either, at least not yet. maybe someone else knows otherwise though.

Since no one else answered you, if you bought it there it should be Region 3. However, if you import one from the US, it would be Region 1....for DVD.

mrhan point out above that both the US and HK are region A; so US BDs will play on a HK PS3.
