I read this as "The individual PTA releases were just listed..." Damn, I'd kill for Boogie Nights, Magnolia and Punch-Drunk Love.

I wonder if Japan will still get them in Mid-October?

Those POTA individual covers are terrible (but don't spoil the damn ending!). Still, I'll be grabbing the first one. Haven't seen the sequels believe it or not. A friend of mine has said Beneath is really bad, but does anyone have anything different or about which ones are the good ones?

bunkaroo 09-22-08 08:33 AM

According to Blu-Ray dot com, we're getting two Luc Benson titles on 12/2 - The Messenger and.......La Femme Nikita.

Very cool on Nikita, but damn, why not make it a three pack with Leon?!?

That's weird because La Femme Nikita is currently out of print in SD DVD.

Didn't know that - glad I've kept my SE copy safe.

Since the previous releases were MGM, I'm guessing Sony has acquired the rights.

A few more Paramount announcements from www.Blu-news.com

Paramount has announced Hot Rod for a December 16th Blu-ray release. The release will feature 1080p video, as well as Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio, and 5.1 PCM Uncompressed audio.

Paramount has announced Election for a January 20th Blu-ray release. The film stars Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Broderick.

It looks that way. Almost all Besson's films are part of the Sony catalog.

Into the Wild is officially announced for 12/16. TrueHD audio, identical dvd features.

Finally. My HD DVD is still sealed.

bunkaroo 09-22-08 01:01 PM

Good news on Into The Wild.

Really liked the film. At first I didn't think it was something I'd watch again, but looking back it's good enough for repeated viewings.

Sony has begun the double dipping shit in their BDs. December 2nd will see the re-release of Stranger than Fiction in a Special Edition.

Just an incredible movie going experience. Did not expect to like this film as much as I did. This purchase is a no-brainer for me.

Daytripper 09-22-08 03:39 PM

"Hot Rod"!?? What a waste of Blu-Ray. Or any format for that matter.

PerryD 09-22-08 04:38 PM

I enjoyed Hot Rod. :P

+1

When he fell down the hill after the "Footloose" dance I laughed until my head exploded.

Started? Casino Royale follows the same treament.

Warner has begun as well with "lavish" boxsets like I Am Legend, A Christmas Story and Casablanca.

And 300. And Batman Begins.

Giles 09-22-08 08:57 PM

I thought Warner's announced and then unannounced the 300 (Box set) since... well it didn't feature the PiP feature that was present on the HD-DVD edition, however I might be giving Warner's too much credit, since they've been more than inconsistent lately with their blu-ray releases.

Gizmo 09-22-08 09:21 PM

300 BD set is not planned...yet. The DVD one is coming out around Christmas.

This is my favorite comedy of the last 25 years or so, and I'm happy to see a Blu on the way. Still, I'll probably wait to upgrade until it can be had for around $15.

Mr. Cinema 09-22-08 10:16 PM

From The Digital Bits:

"Okay, folks... we've got word on more Blu-ray Disc titles and street dates from our retail sources, this time from Paramount and DreamWorks.

In terms of new release titles, Tropic Thunder is expected to be released sometime in November, followed by The Duchess, Ghost Town and Eagle Eye sometime in December. Our sources are currently telling us to expect Eagle Eye on 12/26 and Ghost Town on 12/30.

The great news, however, is that a TON of new catalog Blu-rays are expected to be released on 12/16, just before Christmas. Hot Rod, Old School and Into the Wild have already been announced for that date, and Tommy Boy, Coach Carter and Heartbreak Kid are expected that day as well. Better still, Event Horizon, The Truman Show, Ghost, Last Holiday and Days of Thunder are all expected to arrive in stores on 12/30.

More great Blu-ray titles are expected in January, including Dexter: The Complete First Season (for Showtime), the Braveheart: Special Collector's Edition, Election and Zodiac. Election has already been officially announced for release on 1/20, and we expect Braveheart that day as well.

As always, keep in mind that these titles and dates ARE unofficial and are subject to change until they're actually officially announced by the studios in press releases and retail solicitations.

Stay tuned!"

PopcornTreeCt 09-22-08 10:40 PM

A TON of catalog releases? New catalog releases are former HD-DVD releases? Finally some good news about Braveheart.

Michael Corvin 09-22-08 10:41 PM

Yeah, someone posted the info about Braveheart a few weeks ago. I can't wait!

mdc3000 09-22-08 10:55 PM

DEXTER!!!!! Fucking right, glad I held off the DVD's!
