As with Iron Man and Incredible Hulk, Fox may have Marvel make the initial announcement. Hell, since Fox was a no show completely last year I wouldn't gurantee it. (The only floor presence was Fox Atomic.)

Note: It never confirmed, but rumbling around the show was that Fox felt slighted since Comic-con instituted a new "family friendly" policy about their promotional presentations in Hall H. Apparently this was all set in motion after the 2006 Comic-con, when the Reno 911 troops led to a fairly racy presentation. It was absolutely hilarious, but some mother was apparently offended... When Thomas Lennon (Lt. Dangle on Reno 911) was promoting Balls of Fury last year, he made some off hand references that he, and fellow Reno 911'er Robert Ben Grant, we're "double secret probation" for last years antics.

Not according to today's Digital Bits column: pushed back to 2009, along with Firefly: The Complete Series.

Oh well. I guess they are saving the X-men set to tie in with the Wolverine movie. That makes sense. Not sure why they would push Firefly back.

Yeah, that's it.

Wow. We're talking about 2009 releases already...when nothing good has come out yet in 2008. *sigh

Drexl 07-09-08 08:42 PM

I'm not sure where to put this, but but I got my Cuckoo's Nest from the Warner store today. It is indeed DD 5.1, no lossless.

I don't have my projector connected right now, but from what I can see on the computer monitor it looks pretty good. It's aged as you can imagine, but the grain structure is intact (no bad DNR job) and I don't see bad EE.

Does anyone know what the point of having this thread is, if people keep posting new releases in their own threads? I would prefer having this one only, and not having a new thread started every time a new Blu-ray comes out. If there is a good reason, let me know because it would seem easier just to look in one spot.

Mr. Cinema 07-10-08 10:32 AM

I post smaller releases in this thread, such as Rudy, but a mega title like Batman Begins (which is now up to 9 pages) or something similar, deserves its own thread. This allows for anyone to jump in for discussion. It's no different than the DVD section.

With this general thread, you can't focus on 1 specific title.

I've also seen the same release info posted more than once in this thread. Things just get lost in a general thread. I will continue to post new threads about bigger titles.

obvious answer: because it's Fox. :)

That's kind of my mindset.

Maybe they want to promote it off the back of Whedon's new series that starts early next year.

Okay, cool. That makes sense. I guess if Batman Begins is at 9 pages, I can understand why you wouldn't want to wade through all of that if your just looking for new releases. Thanks guys!

The good news is that Donnie Darko is being released by Metrodome, so it is likely to be All Regions. The bad news is that this is listed as the Directors Cut, which IMO gives away too much (not to mention loses the Echo song!). No thetrical = no sale for me.

The director's cut was released in theaters too. I wish they'd put both versions on the disc. But like you, I prefer the original.

I might have missed if this already was mentioned, but BLOW is coming to Blu-ray on September 23. Great movie! http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/blow2.html

I haven't seen that one in a while.

Also, note the MSRP of $28.99. Perhaps it is just because of Warner distributing it, but New Line catalog titles won't continue to be $35 after all.

According to the back of the cover, only DD 5.1 sound. This is a film from New Line. Had they stayed a company, this would have gotten a DTS HD MA track. Looks like WB strikes again!

Drexl 07-11-08 10:09 PM

Oh, I didn't see that. Too bad.

Gizmo 07-11-08 10:53 PM

Thanks WB. Another DD5.1 title.

Remember when they were doing TrueHD/PCM on HD DVD/Blu-ray releases? Those days were awesome.

pro-bassoonist 07-11-08 11:53 PM

September 23.

I do prefer the original DVD cover but I'll be buying it for the movie itself so bring it on!

Michael Corvin 07-12-08 07:42 AM

I dig the new cover. Nice change of pace and take on the film.

Shannon Nutt 07-12-08 07:46 AM

I like the new cover too...and considering it was the last good thing Kim Basinger was in... :)

Mr. Cinema 07-12-08 08:13 AM

Can't wait for LA Confidential. I hope this one has lossless audio. Going by WB's track record, I'm sure the new extras will be in SD.

Gizmo 07-12-08 11:20 AM

DD5.1 and SD extras...can't wait Warner! Looks like another pass for me if this happens.
