It does kill me - in fact my doctor recommends against it.

Only 2 movies so far, each was under $15.

After years of collecting movies, I will never pay over $15 again for any title. I will wait it out until prices come down. Don't get me wrong. I love watching and collecting movies and really like getting good deals when I can. However, I will never spend the kind of money I have in the past on movies again. Most movies are not worth the money because replay value is so low on most movies.

Considering that when we buy old release movies on HDs, we've probably double or even triple dipped on these from previous DVDs. So I expect better pricing for HDs than what we have now. So I've learned to be patient as well in making the purchase, not really willing to pay MSRP, esp. for old release movies. CH, DD and Amazon help a lot, along with an account from Netflix for initial viewing of new movies. Best Buy and Circuit City are largely options only when the previous online retailers do not have a good price for these treasured movies.

Decided to calculate what I have spent on what I consider my small BD collection so far. I have a total of 52 bd's and that includes 8 pre-orders. Out of the 52, 15 were from trades, 3 from J&R, 14 from Amazon.com and 20 from Amazon.com Marketplace. 27 of the 52 were new and sealed. My average is $12.13 each.

But it could of been so much cheaper if I had not cancelled 4 orders back in Dec of 07. All of these were B1G1F. There were a total of 14 bd's for $116.52, about $8.32 each. I must of been on crack at the time I decided to cancel these orders. I also had about 4 or 5 hd-dvd B1G1F orders and since I did not have a BD player at the time. I told myself I would get them the next B1G1F BD sale. And guess what there has not been another B1G1F BD sale again at Amazon.com. Out of the 14 titles I cancelled I only have 3 of them. Pulls trigger of gun pointed at head.

Of course this average will only rise considering the days of free BDs are over and BOGO BDs are becoming few and far between.

I havn't bought any DVDs for a year now since officially moving to HD last FEB/MAR.

I am also in the camp that can wait for a price drop or sale. I believe I've got close to 300 HD movies (majority BD) & a good bunch of those were freebies from promos from buying the players, and the rest off Ebay & retailer sales.

My avg per movie is prolly a good bit less than $15. I will NOT go over $15 for any movie, even a new release.

I'll wait 2-3 weeks after release date and I never fail to find it on Ebay (used or sealed) for $15 or less, shipped. Occasionally, a B0G0 sales comes up, like that last CH sale, where I grabbed 18 movies for $15/each.

With my 'to watch' pile always queued up, having a movie on release day is pointless. I can wait. Patience is a virtue~.

So far I haven't really bought that many. I picked up a couple at Best Buy when I bought my player. Picked up a few along the way either at BB or Amazon plus I got my 5 free with my second player. So I guess they've been around $20 or $25. I got a few for Christmas and will get some on my birthday as well. Unlike when I started with regular DVD back in 98, there is no REEL.com or 800.com. There are no local stores with inventories of used for $10 each. But I'm pretty finicky on the discs I buy. I don't mind losing extras but I don't like losing an extended or unrated cut of a film to go HiDef. I'll upgrade a 1st generation non-anamorphic or DVD-r of a movie anytime, but I'll save my money if I already have a primo SE. Most of the HiDef discs I've picked up have been HDDVD with the various marketing campaigns and inventory reduction sales.

average paid for the 39 or so I own is $14.05 overall this year on all dvds purchase I've paid around $8.00 a dvd including Blu's and standards.

I'd say I average ~$20/BD not including discounts due to GCs etc. I expect to continue to pay these prices for quite some time, but the premium is well worth the A/V differential between SDs and the BDs that I own to date.

The average more than likely will stay at ~$20, but that's alright by me.

Around $15. I was trigger-happy with my amazon discount on some $27.95 Fox titles in early 2007.

I'd say I average $29.99 every three months or so.

And that's a generous estimate.

the main drawback to buying more often is the fact that a lot of releases don't have the same bang for the buck, extras-wise as the SD DVD (or it's not released on Blu-Ray).

For instance this week 2 DVD's I want came out. There Will Be Blood; No blu-Ray version. The water Horse. The SD Target Exclusive has a documentary I'd like to see.

Week in and week out, it's almost the same story, just a different set of films.

They're still far too expensive IMO, so I only buy them when they're on sale BOGO or something similar. Probably only about $100 a month for me.

By my calculations I average about $18 per Blu-ray disc. If I factor in the 5 free BDs by the mail-in-rebate (which I have yet to receive), that drops to about $15 per disc. If I factor in my HD DVDs, my average again drops to about $12 per disc. And if I factor in the 5 free HD DVDs by the mail-in-rebate (which I have also yet to receive), that drops my final average to just under $10 per disc. Not bad, I'd say, for someone who doesn't buy used and doesn't shop online.

I really don't mind spending $25-$30 on a Blu-ray if it's a well done set. I spent that on Close Encounters and Blade Runner and I feel totally justified. I'd say otherwise I'm averaging around $22. That will more than likely come down when I factor in the horror titles I just ordered from Deep Discount at $12 a piece.

What it comes down to, is if I love a title enough and they have done it justice, I'll spend a bit more money. I'm not gonna buy a nearly barebones copy of anything for $30, but give me a nice special edition and I'll cave.

Some quick math reveals that I've apparently spent roughly $23 a piece for my five Blu-rays. The horror!

Suppose I'd be more concerned if there were a larger number of movies that interested me on the format. If I had 25 movies and were still paying that much, yikes, but as it is, these five were/are the only ones I've really wanted so far.

I've gotten every Blu-ray for free or on a deal/sale. Thanks to sites like this one!

I like to have an on-demand library of movies I know I'll watch again. But, I also want plenty of new movies, too. So, I have Netflix 4-out as well. Plus, I have HD On Demand on cable (Encore, free movies is probably 40-50 titles at any one time). I've had a catalog of 200-400 movies since 1999. I go through periods purging them. Most of the time, I get such a good deal on movies initially, that even if I resell them -- I'm really not out any money. Lately, though, used DVD prices have plummeted.

I've purchased very few titles on day of release, except Star Wars trilogy box set, Indiana Jones box set, and Pixar/Disney movies. I can wait for months for a deal as I have plenty of movies I love to watch on hand. I don't have a "to-watch" pile. I watch 'em with 5-10 days of buying them.
