When will we see The X-Files: Fight the Future on Blu-ray?

Has anyone heard if 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment plans to tie this into the forthcoming sequel? 2008 is also the 10th anniversary, so I hope we'll see a Blu-ray release announced at some point this year.

You didn't upgrade when the DVD was re-released in anamorphic?

(That's the only one I have, and it - upconverted - is good enough for me!)

I actually thought the DTS release was the only DVD. I'm sure it'll get released - at the same time as the release of X-Files 2 on BD.

They'll likely release it in the fall when the new film is issued on DVD and Blu-ray.

Can we save the Fox bashing for titles where it's warranted? We don't need it in speculation threads, thanks.

As for the TV show, I might be wrong about this, but I believe the first several seasons were all shot on video and would not benefit from and HD transfer.

So do I, but considering that I haven't watched it in years, I doubt I'll spend the money to upgrade.

I wouldn't mind that at all, but would the episodes benefit from a high def transfer? Were they even shot on film?

If I'm not mistaken the show was filmed on 16mm until the fifth season, which would make it pointless for an HD release... same problem goes for Buffy's first two seasons...

From all that I have read you are correct, the show (at least the best seasons IMO) would not see any benefit from a HD transfer. The movei may, but I would expect to hear anything until the 2nd one comes out, we may see it then.

What's the best 16 mm can look?

Not true. For example, Veronica Mars was shot in 16mm and it looked pretty good in HD.

Nope. The DTS release was the upgrade (released Jan 23, 2001, original release was May 4, 1999). I swapped my copy out as soon as I read about it and basically got the new copy for no cost. If it were getting updated for Blu-ray, I'd expect it to come out around the release date for the second film in theaters.

All said, the DTS verison is pretty bang up so I would hope that they retain all of the additional content or else no sale for me.

Thanks for crushing my dreams.
I think they were crushed well before that. My understanding is the the FX techniques utilized in the show would be upstaged by HD rendering. The added expense to bring those up to par with the film quality would be cost prohibitive (which doesn't even scratch the surface of the fact that it is a FOX property!).

Ah, okay - good to know. I can't believe it's been that long since it came out on DVD. When did it come out at the theaters? Fall of 98? Just about 10 years...whoa. I just hope the magic is still there for this next one.

Wow 10 years ago....I remember going to the Ziegfeld in NYC at 10 in the morning the day it released. Two bagels, a big OJ, the morning off from work....good times.

Funny story - the second time I went to see it there, Tarantino was there with a few people. What makes it funny is the guy I was with was a waiter at a place in the village where Tarantino ordered drinks from him and then left to go across the street before they came to the table. My friend had to pay the tab, so we were needling him to go ask for his money, but he didn't do it unfortunately.

EDIT: Release date to theaters was 6/19/98.

The later X-Files (16x9) seasons look fantastic upconverted to me. Easily some of the best looking SD to my eyes with my set-up. Lots of widescreen anamorphic TV looks stellar upconverted. It's amazing. I would not replace any of them.

I wouldn't be surprised if Fox tested the waters with this series on HD, though. Certainly makes sense to release the previous movie.
