I wouldn't be surprised if Fox tested the waters with this series on HD, though. Certainly makes sense to release the previous movie.

Even if the PQ is only a moderate upgrade, I couldn't pass up hearing this one in DTS-HD MA.

The last 'Fight the Future' DVD was THX-certified, which means it had lots of edge enhancement. Would like to see a nice remaster if possible. Unfortunately, Fox is pretty inconsistent in the quality of their catalog titles.

Maybe reviewers weren't looking for EE back in 2000, but reviews here and at DVDMG (which I trust) have not mentioned any excessive EE on this title.

Granted, many THX releases have been layered with EE, but I don't think X-Files was as bad as some others. I haven't watched the DVD in a while - I'll have to check it tonight toi see how it looks on my current system.

I know that a lot of discs I reviewed favorably back in the day look pretty appalling now that I have equipment better able to resolve their flaws.

I put in 'Fight the Future' recently. It's pretty clear that the picture had some e.e. applied, and then was DNR'ed to hell afterwards to reduce the halos. It still has ringing, and next to no detail at all.

I also have the first non-anamorphic DVD. In fact, this was my first purchase of a Fox DVD.

I'll buy a Blu-ray release if Fox does the following:

a) provides a solid audio/video presentation.
b) Port over all extras from the DVD release (and if possible, have all three trailers in 1080p). Please don't trim the extras down either.
c) New extras would also be great.

That's it.

dcprules 03-22-08 02:49 PM

Yeah, I'll definitely buy it. Love the movie. Hopefully something before the sequel with free movie cash would be nice.

Haven't watched the DTS Anamorphic DVD in a while but recall loving the sound in it. That opening explosion sounded great.

The original dvd doesn't have that much extras anyway, except for a Chris Carter commentary, trailers, and the Fox making of special. I would love to see some new extras produced instead, and if they put the trailers on it in high def that would be nice too.

You're right… there could be a bit more. What was included before was nice, and I hope Fox carries them over.

Any reviews yet for "Fight the Future"?

bunkaroo 12-01-08 08:48 AM

None that I've seen.

I was surprised to see this has an "extended cut" listed on the back art. That should be interesting. I don't remember if there were deleted scenes on the DVD.

The extended cut is the only version thats ever been released on VHS and DVD. Its only a few minutes longer that the theatrical version. There were no deleted scenes on the old dvd

Does anyone know if the 2 pack Blu-Ray has all the special features for 'I Want to Believe'? I get this sneaking suspicion that it does not. It's being listed as 2 discs but I thought 'I Want to Believe' was 2 or 3 discs on it's own.

matome 12-02-08 09:43 AM

I would imagine the 2-pack is just the two BD keepcases put into a slipcover like their AVP/Requiem 2-pack was. I Want To Believe is a 2-disc set and that's only because the 2nd disc is a DVD with the Digital Copy on it. DVDEmpire lists the two pack as a 3-disc set with covers and specs which seems to verify that.

That's what I assumed but DeepDiscount had different special features for I Want to Believe than the version that was in the 2 pack. I'm going to Best Buy now to see what I can find.

Bingo bango, that's exactly what I saw in-store.

Bluelitespecial 12-02-08 06:18 PM

It would have been nice if if the two pack was just both movies minus the digital copy, which I could really care less about. Did anyone else find the two pack in stores I had to ask the guy at Best Buy this morning and luckily they had it.

Jedi Master 33 12-03-08 07:16 AM

I was gonna get it at Wal-mart, but they didn't have it. Plus their site says Not Sold In Stores. So I just picked up the IWTB.

How would have that been better than including it? Some of us like digital copies, and for those who don't, throw them away or sell them.

TheMovieman 12-03-08 10:26 AM

Yeah, I don't see the problem with including the digital copy in the 2-pack. Personally, I don't care for them, but I don't think the price of the 2-pack would've been cheaper anyway (picked up mine for $40).
