Plexifilm's first Blu-Ray release: Helvetica - May 6th
Plexifilm's first Blu-Ray release is Gary Hustwit's documentary Helvetica and it's up for pre-order now (there's also a signed, limited edition available for five times as much).
"Helvetica is the feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface, which celebrated its 50th birthday in 2007, as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. Helvetica encompasses the worlds of design, advertising, psychology, and communication, and invites us to take a second look at the thousands of words we see every day.
Helvetica was filmed entirely in high definition. Blu-ray is the best way to experience the acclaimed documentary that has surprised and delighted so many fans around the world."
I'm glad to see Plexifilm enter the HDM market, but I wonder how much an excellent documentary about a typeface will excite buyers. I certainly would like to see Space Is The Place in HD, but I suppose Plexifilm have lost the rights to that one.

This was interesting, but not something I'd want to own. If I did want it, I'd get it on BD though. I'm glad to see non-mainstream stuff like this coming out.
It's on NetFlix's Watch Now if anyone wants to check it out.

I wonder how many copies this sold on DVD... has to be a very small number. I can only imagine how small the sales will be for Blu-Ray.
If a documentary about a font can get a Blu-Ray release, what the hell is Criterion waiting for?
