Yeah, I'm expecting pawn shop values out of that "program." LOL!

Just for laughs, I put in my ol' Canon S1 digital camera into the "evaluator" and it came back with a possible trade-in credit of $32 or $36 (forgot which it was). For that amount, I'll just let the camera sit on the shelf and rot.

What is the plan for these traded-in items? Will they have used HD DVDs available? Will they take them to destroy them?

They'll probably sell them on half.com under the username "BestBuyBob".

It says somewhere in the FAQ that they'll sell the items on ebay.

I can't imagine they'll be getting too many trade-ins, though, at those prices. Prices for some items didn't seem too bad, but others were insulting.

Plus you're not getting real money, you're getting Best Buy gift cards, so that drops the value of your "trade-in" even more....

The bullshit part is they'll probably try to sell them for more than new ones cost now.

I bought a few HD DVD 360 add-ons last year...hoping some gift cards come my way.

Dan,

I don't think you're supposed to list ebay auctions on the board. Especially since you're new, it might look a little too suspicious.

The A35 has been holding firm at Amazon for $240.....I'm getting impatient with the lack of movement on this item!

Glad to see I didn't wait for Amazon. I was lucky to find an A35 for $150 - 10% off coupon at BB. Otherwise I would probably be still in your position, waiting for Amazon to drop their price. I have about $30 in credit/GCs there at the moment. I'll just find something else to spend it on.

Yes those ebay prices seem high. I just sold 19 titles to one person for a total of $10 each and $8.95 shipping. 15 of the 19 titles were still brand new and sealed.

ebay is 98% ripoff...but a deal can be found, if you are patient. I've gotten Syriana and FMJ Delux for less than $8 shipped (new) - and Arctic Tale (New) for about $12 shipped. But again, you have to be VERY patient to get any kind of a deal on ebay. It never ceases to amaze me what some people will pay for stuff ($15+shipping for movies available on-line all over for $12) People are idiots

Best Buy PM

I don't go to Best Buy a lot but I was in there last night and while I was browsing the HD DVD movies the Store Manager approached me and asked if I needed any help. I explained that some of the titles were listed for less than the 30% off on their website and asked if they would match their web price. He said "Of course, we will always match our website." As he was walking away I asked if they would match them even if they were sold out on line, he said, "If the price is on our website, we'll match it!" One employee even looked up 5 or 6 titles for me while I was there.

It sounds like those having problems at other BBs must be running into a bunch of jerks.

Bad news for us! Finally, there has been some movement on Amazon's price for the Toshiba HD-A35...however, the movement was on the upside from $239.77 to a whopping $299.99! What's going on? I thought these units were obsolete?

So, despite getting an A35 for $150, I'm still considering getting an XA2 for $300. But it's a refurb from ubid, so I'm not 100% sold on the prospect. I might just go back to Fry's and see if they have any A35 units left.

I'm sure just because something is obsolete, it doesn't change the pricing based on supply and demand.

XA2 is way better then the A35. I got my XA2 from uBid (refurbished) and it is practically brand new. No scratches, plastic still over the remote, has yet to freeze/stall at all. Maybe I'm just lucky but I have yet to encounter a problem and I have owned nearly every HD DVD player released.

I might even sell my spare A30 and pick up an extra XA1.

I don't think people expected these to run dry so soon. The format has only been officially dead for a month yet most of the players are sold out from stores. The fire sale prices are gone and whats left is returns and open boxed units. With quality titles as low as $10 (vs $20+ for the same on Blu-ray), its a no brainer for some people to invest in a player and some movies while still getting an excellent upconverter. Besides Oppo (and the price) you can't beat $99 for an A3 (or A30 depending on the store) which is a pretty damn decent upconverter.

Do a search and read...you will see a lot of people are having issues with these players from Ubid after a few days. This player also has a shutdown bug if you run it in 1080P60FPS. The A35 is a better bang for the buck if you can find it new. I picked it up from tigerdirect for 169.00 shipped via 2-day delivery.

Not a single issue with mine and Ive used it to watch 15 or so HD DVDs and just as many DVDs. Keep it at 2.7 firmware if you don't want that bug that seems to only effect certain people. I'm not saying the A35 is crap, it certainly kicks ass as well, but I'd much rather have an XA2 with superior build, REON, and the delicious metal remote.
