With the AU$20 shipping surcharge, Heroes will cost me AU$47.12 (GST removed), or approx US$43. Best domestic price is US$70 at DD. Tough call....

I placed an order on 2/25 for Leaving Las Vegas and have heard nothing from them.

Several posters over at hidefdigest forum have been discussing this Best Buy in California that has evidently been selling all the HD-DVDs at 9.99. There have been tons of people going to their local branches and trying to get a price match (some even persuading managers to call the California location), and I think one person has been successful.

Evidently, this store has done this 'on their own' and it's not in any shape or form a company-wide sale...

Gizmo 03-26-08 01:55 PM

That's a managers deal. They are losing money like crazy selling them for that price. They can be returned for more money.

All that means is that the title is no longer available for people ordering now. If you placed your order when it was reported to be in stock, you should still receive it unless they explicitly send you an email indicating that they couldn't get a copy.

Draven 03-26-08 07:48 PM

Well my local Best Buy is cleared out of HD DVDs...bare empty shelves except for a copy of Bourne Ultimatum sitting on the top rack by it's lonesome.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

VAMPYRE XX 03-26-08 09:50 PM

They did this same thing with DVD-Audio a while back (sending them back) and now they are only available on the BB website (except for a few exceptions like Elton John and The Who). So it makes since that this is happening. They even still have DVD-Audio stuff long out of print and not available on Amazon. At a hefty price as well.
I was able to hook myself up earlier today just before they sent everything back but it's not going to be a deal everyone can get unfortunately. I was lucky that they like me so much at my regular Best Buy. I got both the Battlestar Galactica season 1 and Heroes Season 1 HD-DVD for $30 each. The CSR knew I wanted them and set them aside for me as they were packing them up. He even called me to tell me to come get them. They matched the California store price. Those were the only 2 major things that I needed to have a near complete domestic release HD-DVD collection. I think everything of any major importance will end up on Blu-Ray so it's not really the end.. The big thing now is to try and figure out what was made on HD-DVD and will never come out on Blu-Ray. That's what we will want to make sure and buy now while the prices are low. It's the million dollar question that will make a difference later on down the road. Good luck on your hunt...

Woo hoo! I just this minute got a shipping notice including Heroes!

Yavin 03-27-08 08:42 AM

Just got a copy of Pan's Labyrinth HD DVD for 6 bucks and some change at Wal-Mart yesterday! Sure, I already own the 2-Disc SD DVD Future Shop exclusive with the Mike Mignola slipcover (and I haven't even watched it yet), but can't go wrong for that price! :)

PS - ezydvd just updated their HD-DVD clearance list. They're selling the five Harry Potter HD-DVDs for AU$11.75 each (GST free), or approx US$10.75 before shipping. The're also selling all five together for AU$45.30 (GST free) with a flat AU$20 shipping price, for a total of approx US$60.

Explain? How is the movie so cheap at Wal-Mart? Was it marked?

Wal-Mart Canada ... an HD DVD clearance sale just came into effect yesterday. Pan's Labyrinth was the cheapest deal, with a few other titles at $8.83, some more at $14.83, and a few at $19.83. Not all titles were on sale though. And everything has been cleared out after the first day already (not helped by the fact that the average Wal-Mart carries a paltry HD DVD selection to begin with).

I left work half an hour earlier and managed to snag the only copy at the store I passed by on my way home :)

Gizmo 03-27-08 08:54 AM

Ahh...Canada...Thanks though.

Walmart Canada is clearing out HD-DVDs. Seems no reason to the rhyme on pricing.

Harry Potters (all except the most recent) are $14.88
Mission Impossible 1 and 2 are $14.88

Pan's Labyrinth is $6.83
Lucky # Slevin - $6.83
Hot Fuzz is $8.93
Eastern Promises is $8.93
Balls of Fury is $8.93

The Kingdom, American Gangster, Bourne Ultimatum, Elizabeth: The Golden Age and Knocked up are $19.83

The Invasion is $17.83
Bourne Identity and Bourne Supremacy were $12.83
300 was $17.83
Brokeback Mountain- $8.83
The Host- $6.83
Apollo 13 -$12.83

There are more, but that's the rough rundown.

Yavin 03-27-08 09:01 AM

I sure would have liked to have gotten Hot Fuzz and The Host as well, but oh well ... lucky to have gotten anything at all!

Finally got a shipping notice last night for BSG Season 1 as well as a few other smaller titles.

kenbuzz 03-27-08 09:18 AM

Here's the full rundown of ezydvd's current HD-DVD sale titles.
Linky: http://www.ezydvd.com.au/promo.zml?p...&dreg=1&dsav=1

Sets (w/flat rate shipping)
Battlestar Galactica S1 AU$31.66 + AU$9.50 s/h = US$37.80 (Note 1)
Harry Potter S1-S5 AU$45.40 + AU$20 s/h = US$60.00 (Note 2)
Star Trek TOS S1 AU$90.75 + AU$20 s/h = US$101.70 (Note 3)

These sets have their own shipping rates and are NOT counted when computing shipping for individual titles.

Set Notes:
(1) The Aussie BSG HD release does not include the S1 mini-series. The best domestic price for BSG S1 HD with the mini-series is US$69.85. Is the miniseries worth the extra US$32? ... your call.
(2) The Harry Potter S1-S5 HD "set" is for the movies only. This is not the same as the HP Gift Set. The best domestic price for the HP Gift Set is currently US$71.49 (free shipping) at Amazon. Are bookmarks and a cool box worth an extra US$11?

I would if I had either of those :( ... I only have my one copy of Pan's ...

Randy Miller III 03-27-08 09:37 AM

Nice deal on Into the Wild...picked up a copy.
By the way, anyone know if those ugly rating labels come off, or are they part of the cover artwork?

kenbuzz 03-27-08 09:53 AM

They're part of the artwork, but you might be able to download a replacement cover from R1db.

bretski 03-27-08 09:59 AM

Thanks Kenbuzz! Got Into the Wild and SupsII.

CKMorpheus 03-27-08 10:32 AM
