How likely are you to double dip on your DVDs?

Honestly I could probably count on one hand the number of titles on both HD-DVD and Blu-ray that haven't shown at least a decent amount of improvement in the transfer. Even if it looks like crap for a HD title, it's almost always an upgrade over the SD-DVD.

Which is probably the same situation that many are in. What we watch the shows on makes a big difference whether or not the format makes any difference at all. If I were to bet, discs won't be in the next gen. I think a lot of people are betting on that.
In the end, none of it matters except enjoying the entertainment.

I already dumped my entire DVD collection and plan to restart on Blu, already have 14 or 15 titles.
I didn't watch 80% of those DVD's anyways, and the increased PQ on Blu-Ray is outstanding... plus I got a ton of shelf space back

Half the stuff I'd want to double dip probably won't get better transfers. Like Deep Rising; Probably be quite a while before anyone thinks about doing an HD release of that. Some things definitely need it though. Anything I have a matted DVD of is definitely a double dip when I see an anamorphic/HD release. I also consider double-sided DVDs of movies I liked a slightly higher priority to upgrade to HD, just cause I hate those discs.
I have 7 Sauder #2650 cabinets here. 4 are full of DVDs (and half a shelf of HD-DVDs), and the other 3 are barely half full since I started dumping VHS movies as I replaced them. Now I'm having to be more selective about which movies I buy DVDs of now and which I think could see an HD transfer in the next year or so. Don't want to upgrade twice. heheh

A very small percentage, probably 5% or less of my ~500. Most movies look just fine to me in upconverted SD. Yes, there is a difference, but it is not a difference worth money to me, except in a precious few cases. Probably the only situations where I will upgrade are 1) movies I really love, 2) the existing transfer is non-anamorphic/otherwise inadequate, 3) the HD disc price is reasonable, and/or, 4) the HD version offers upgraded special features over the version I have.
