What difference does it make whether I bought the disc not knowing whether it had extras or not? That is completely irrelevant. I'd of made this thread complaining if I had only rented or borrowed the disc all the same. I bought disc among DOZENS of others at the same time while rushing to get the order through before the 20% off sale at DDD. It was the last night of the sale with only about 30 minutes left. So excuse me if I didn't feel like checking the "Features" tab among the hundred or so discs to make sure the extras are there.

I knew the SD version had extras, so is it too much to assume, upon watching the movie, that said extras would be on their HiDef version? If this is a common practice then they seriously need to re-evaluate their business practices. Double dipping was acceptable back in the early days of SD DVDs, but we shouldn't have to accept this crap today.

So let me emphasize....I wouldn't be complaining if none of the SD versions of The 5th Element contained no extras at all. But the fact that the SD versions DO contain a wealth of extras, releasing a BR version of the film that is pretty much barebones, on a disc that holds 30 Gigs of storage is inexusable.

This has been the common practice since HDM started. You will often find extras from the various SD releases missing from the HDM version.

I, for one, welcome our no extra HiDef overlords.

Who gives a shit if it has extras? The movie rocks!

Personally, I would be more concerned about whether I got the re-mastered version or not.

Not sure why OutRun2 is getting the hot burner. I agree with him. He's making a statement about a particular title he purchased, and is not singling out 5th Element. He just happened to buy this title and is now commenting on it.

Porting over extras, even in SD, should be priority. I would bet if you did a capacity check on the HD media, you'd find in almost every instance, there was enough space to put in ALL the SD extras.

So, yes. We're being fucked. In High-Def.

I totally agree that there is no excuse for not including all of the extras. And you're also right that on most discs (most likely on both formats) there could or should be enough room to include the extras, at least in SD.

But I think the reason people have come down a bit too hard in OutRun2 is that tone of the title of the thread and the first post gave some the impression that he was complaining that he was somehow duped. But the reality is that, as unfortunate as it is that the title doesn't have the extras that it should have, no one got ripped off or duped into buying it. Anyone who feels that way still has only themselves to blame.

Yeah, I can understand that. A person should have a reasonable amount of knowledge before buying a product. But if you want to see your favorite movies in HD, then what choice do you have? You don't have a choice, really. However, this is exactly why I am NOT selling my SD DVD versions just yet when I have the HD version.

Just an FYI, when I say "HD", I mean High Definition, not "HD DVD".

Same here. I guess, trying to put as much of a positive spin on it as possible, you could look at it as a "special 3-disc edition, containing both the HD and SD versions of the film, plus hours and hours of special features". Yeah, that's the ticket! ;)

An underrated masterpiece.

A friend of mine and I were having a conversation about this the other day. He asked me why if BRs have so much more room, there were hardly any extras on any of them. I have never been a big extras watcher myself but I had to admit his point.

I understand that alot of that room is taken up by HD Video & Audio tracks, but on BRs like Fifth Element I don't see why they can't include the SD extras disc from the standard SE 2-Disc Set so that the people who want extras will be happy. That couldn't cost them anything.

I picked up T5E BD for $10 at Fry's during the holidays during one of those sales. I don't see what the fuss is, for $10 I thought I got a great deal on a movie-only release.

I totally get your point; and I'm sorry that some people are taking you out to task (myself included). You are right that after so many SD upgrades... and not one but two shots at an HD version (they had do a remaster), you would think they would have been able to give us everything with this disc.

However, it is one of the cheaper Blu-rays that you can usually get for around $14.95 at Amazon (sometimes cheaper when a B1G1 comes along), so I don't see the big deal on this one. Especially since the PQ/AQ are supposedly stellar (don't own it, so I couldn't tell you). Even if you did order it at the eleventh hour before a sale expired (that sale went on for two weeks+ by the way), you still could have checked out the specs or held off until you knew them if the bonus features were as important to you as the main feature.

There are plenty of other titles well worth griping about that lack special features AND are outrageously priced. Fox, you should be ashamed of yourselves for many of your BD offerings thus far.
