How awesome is Tony? I ordered on the 24th, got my disc on the 28th (to California).

480i is NTSC resolution while 576i is PAL resolution. However, for HDM, this is pretty much moot for 95% of all releases.
The 480/576 resolution image is pillarboxed inside a 1080i resolution frame. This means that as long you got a player capable of displaying or downconverting 1080i then you are fine. |
I'm not sure where the 95% figure comes from. Is that for European releases? Every BD I've played with standard definition extras has them in 480i, which is output as 480p by the PS3 because it deinterlaces 480i material when using HDMI. I see the projector switch to 480p for input, and if they're not anamorphic widescreen I have to manually switch to 4:3 mode to keep them from being stretched across the screen. If they were 1080i, I wouldn't have to switch modes.

All the extras play fine, they are pillarboxed in a 16 X 9 frame. No worries.
