How much better would HDM (both HD-DVDs and BDs) look on a non-HDTV than regular DVDs (both through an HDM player and through an SD-DVD player?).
Thanks!
Thanks!

I noticed a difference on DirecTV HD channels hooked up to an SD tv through component. Was a much more crisp picture.

My experience with viewing downconverted high def broadcast content on an SD TV is that it feels like you are watching one of the best DVD encodes you have ever seen. Details are crisp, colors are excellent. But it still isn't going to look high def.
I would guess that HDM content would also look very good, but given the constraints of downconversion, it probably wouldn't look any better. It's still going to max out at 480p (or 480i, depending on the TV).

I have an HD-DVD player sitting around doing nothing (too good of a deal with the free movies) so I wanted to swap it so that I'm able to watch movies downstairs with the family. The HD setup is in my room

I have a panny EDTV and it's technically considered to be standard def, but can display up to 1080i. I have my HD player hooked up to it and I can definitely see a huge difference. Not HD but looks super bad ass
