Hasn't Apple been like that on all their products? I never understood the love for Apple when all their software only works on their hardware.

The Netflix movie viewer does not work on Macs. They say they are working on a fix for it, but nobody knows when/if it will come out. Sorry.

What other computer would I want to run Apple software on? Windows? No thanks.

If the HD movies are in the original aspect ratio then I'll start renting movies. I also have many HD OnDemand choices from cable, but they crop most of their movies. XBOX does a good job with original aspect ratio. Hopefully Apple does as well.

Yeah, this doesn't seem very different from what I've already got on my 360. And I never use that service because I'm too busy watching HD DVD and Blu-ray.

So not updating my hacked AppleTV for this unless there is a work around.

His point is that you're then locked into buying Apple hardware for as long as you want to use the media (presumably indefinitely). It's not like a disc player where you can buy a Panasonic and then later replace that with a Pioneer.

But I'm sensing that unless you purchase the AppleTV 2.0 hardware, you'd not be able to use it anyway. So your hacked 1.0 is probably about as good as you're gonna get with that hardware....

Apple is a driving, innovative force. They first made CD burners, then combos then DVD burners standard in their computers. Now we will see them switch away from hard discs to solid state memory. To me, it is very telling that Apple never made BD (or HD DVD for that matter) standard equipment in their computers. Clearly they don't see the future in HDM.

Right. The end game for all of this is to sell Apple hardware. The only reason for adding any features is to sell more of their own hardware.

There is no AppleTV 2.0 hardware. All they did was announce a new firmware update and a price drop on the year old hardware that have been in stores.
