My HDTV doesn't have an HDMI outlet, is my TV outdated?
I have a 2004 52" RCA CRT HDTV, and since the Warner/BluRay announcement last week, I have been seriously considering getting a BluRay player, but I looked and I don't have any HDMI outlets. I assume cause my TV is 4 years old, this wasn't a standard option as it seems now with new HDTV's. Can I get some adaptor if I buy a BluRay player for an HDMI outlet.
Alittle help, I am confused! Thanks!

I don't believe an adapter is an option unless you want to connect via a different type and accept the loss in signal quality. The difference is bigger than just the connector at the end of the cable.

Oh yeah, I forgot about DVI, I'm using that connection with an HDMI-to-DVI cable on my old 2002 Samsung DLP. I could've used the components on there as well, but I just wanted to actually use the DVI connection for something

I bought my HDTV in 2001 and it has no HDMI input. So I got an adapter off ebay that takes the HDMI and converts it to component. That way I can still see upscaled DVDs.
If your TV dosn't have HDMI, you can do what I did. Or you might have a DVI connection. That will work just as well for video. Or you can just use component, which works just as well for Blu Ray disc content.

Actually, now that DVDJosh mentioned the HDMI handshake thing, what about HDCP for the DVI connections? I'm rusty on that. I was pretty shocked that my old 2002 set worked, but I would imagine a 2004 set would probably be fine.

I have a DVI-D with the HDCP thing, on mine. Got the DVI-HDMI cable from monoprice, and I don't get a signal. I think its for PC only or something. So I guess mines half out dated, but I got it in 2005. I just use component

I use component cables on my 2000 Mitsubishi. i only get 480p from it but it still looks better than my regular DVD did and it will hold me over until I get a new plasma display
