Already having a PS3, I'd need it to be around $150.

^^ agreed.

I spent $500 on an 80GB PS3. I won't buy a stand alone player anytime soon. I wouldn't have spent $500 on a stand alone player, $200 would probably be the price point that would get me to buy one. I could justify $500 for the PS3 since it's also a nice game system, the 10 free Blu-rays I got with it also helped.
I waited to get an A2 until the $99 price at Walmart. |
I wasn't even considering buying an HD DVD player until it fell below $200, and was sold when I got one for $100. When BD players fall below $200, I'll go there, too, but that doesn't look like it will be anytime soon.

I said $150, but anywhere between $200 and $150 for a fully featured 1.1 player, and I'd think about it. At $150 or less, I'd definitely buy.

I will buy one when they get down probably under $150, but definetly under $100. I got into the dvd game at that price, I got into hd dvd at that price, and that is the price I will pay for blu-ray. :)

I hope I am wrong but I do not feel the recent drops in hardware prices due to competition will come to a screeching halt. Sony has historically been known to keep it's products priced higher than comparable products. I see no reason why they would go against their nature. Sadly for me, with Amazon's $179 price w/movies for HD-DVD, I was expecting to see ~$150 in the very near future. Now I don't know that a similar pricepoint for equal hardware is anywhere near being realistic. I have never looked at br seriously and was unaware of the product they are actually selling...with lacking features and incompatibilities looming.
p.s...if not obvious, my price would have been $100-$150 to jump into full hd playback. |
Can anyone wager a guess as to when the 40 GB PS3 will come down in price to about $150 (based on the price drops taken for the PS2)?
|
well the ps2 was never $400 to begin with so it's really hard to say (5 years?), but I imagine a stand alone player will reach that price point well before a ps3 ever does
