Rumors about Paramount changing allegiances

On an unrelated note, HBO-HD played Braveheart the other day in OAR, but the transfer was atrocious. Washed out and tons of debris. I popped in the new SCE DVD and it looked much better in terms of color saturation and there were no flaws I could see. I really hope the HD transfer I saw on HBO-HD was an old one.

I'm sure paramount and universal are just trying to figure out a way to wring more money out of the BDA for support.
How about the BDA giving me some incentive to pick up a player, like price breaks and an assurance that blu ray 5.7 won't make a 1.1 player obsolete.
I'm sure DigitalBits is having a grand old time releasing news with a big "FUCK YOU" sense of writing. Great, he was proved right because his BDA overlords spent a lot of cash to get Warner
Great job. How about apologizing to all the owners of Blu Ray 1.0 players your shilling sold who can't watch some of the very discs now co,ing out.
Digital Bits lost of loyal readers who won't be coming back to your site, even when and if Blu Ray becomes the next DVD.

So much emotional investment. I thought once a person leaves Middle School they stop basing their worth as a human on external things like what clothes they wear, car they drive, or the format of hidef discs they prefer.
I've only been reading the threads in HD Talk for the last 3 days, but a lot of the sentiment expressed has been of the "My dad can beat your dad...well, your mother wears army boots" type of bickering.
It all seems silly to me. You knew there was a format WAR going on when you decided to pick a side. It was labeled a "WAR" and not a "TEA PARTY" for a reason.
Seems like quite a few people jumped into this war simply because they wanted the chance to win at something and never gave any consideration to losing.
The sense of entitlement to be on the winning side is quite puzzling.

Check out your own assessment -- it's a "war", not a "tea party".

I have no emotional investment in it. In fact, the whole format war probably saved me money. I returned a $140 upconverting DVD player, bought an A-2 with the Amazon glitchy type of deal with the 8 movies and have watched/sold all of them plus some of the rebate movies...which I calculated to be about $110 or so.
So I saved 30 bucks, have a nice upconverting player and enjoyed some HD media while at it. So there you go. I will buy a Blu Ray player probably later this year, with no harm/no foul.
Personally, I think Paramount is going to go Blu Ray at some point, who cares if they are still technically HD DVD exclusive now, I think technically Japan and Russia haven't ended World War II yet but everyone knows they aren't fighting. Except when some mapmaker screws up and puts down the wrong name every 5 years.

Here's four words that won't gain me any friends: I like Bill Hunt.
People are really getting riled up over speculation. I for one think that Reuters, Hunt, Vaughn, and others are on to something. The wording of Paramount's response certainly didn't dissuade me from believing that they will be going Blu shortly.

I am not saying that the topic is not worthy of discussion. The Blu brigade that is invading every conversation here, and we all know EXACTLY who the five or six fuckwads are, are just getting on my last nerve.
They are not contributing anything except trying to throw salted alcohol on the wound and watch. Then there is the closeminded "BD is right 1000000000% of the time" poster. Real discussion is off-tracked again and again and again and again.

Nobody can tell you for a fact that what they sell will never be repalced by something new. In fact, almost everything in the electronics market is obsolete rather quickly.
Is the computer you are using right now the latest and greatest? Will it eventually be "semi-obsolete, obsolete, technically impaired, not fully compatible, not fully functioning, unable to access certain aspects"? Of course it will.
I also notice you have ignored my question about whether the Blu-Ray players can be upgraded or not.

And I didn't even know you were asking a question. 1.0 players cannot be upgraded to 1.1. Except for the PS3, I guess, which is a completely different animal than standalone players.

Isn't this bickering going to be embarrassing for some to look back on?
I mean, if there were message boards like this going on during VHS/Beta, wouldn't it be hilarious to see people arguing about what kind of magnetic tape was being used?

Alrighty then. I think this thread has outlived its usefulness.
Qui Gon Jim: Why don't you take a few hours away from HD Talk Forum, for your own good. I was gonna say a few days, but I don't know if that'll be possible.
Everyone: Until we hear something official from Paramount that they are dropping HD DVD support, please continue the discussion in the Warner goes Blu thread:

Thanks.
