BB allows one return per year w/o receipt, DL# entered. I returned 7 duplicate gifts the other day.

Pretty soon they should realize what is going on but then again.....

If you have a PS3 and dont have Rachet and Clank Future, Heavenly Sword or Resistance: Fall of Man then your PS3 really has only one purpose. To play blu-rays. I had all 3 three systems, but since my daughter ruined my Wii by shoving a PSP game in it, now I'm stuck playing through Twilight Princess on the gamecube. Sigh..

i just swapped my unopened warner titles out. keeping everything else.

Did you make a straight up exchange or get a gift card with store credit? I have 4 sealed WB HD-DVDs that go for the same price on BD at BB.

One other question if you don't mind, have you made other returns/exchanges at BB recently? I'm just curious because they keep track by driver license

Patman 01-06-08 11:45 PM

I did end up ordering the BD version of the Blade Runner Ultimate briefcase edition, but it was weird that it was $3 cheaper than the HD DVD version at Amazon, so when I ship back the HD DVD version to Amazon, the cost will be pretty close to a wash (I think they'll charge $3-$5 for the return shipping).

Do non-receipt exchanges count against that or not?

cmvolt 01-07-08 03:19 AM

Don't bother with the exchanges or refunds. The posters at blu-ray.com have already started an email campaign to all the B&M's to negate all your plans.

Straight up exchange. This is the only non receipt thing I have done in years.

Our local Best Buy has signs up stating that they will not accept any returns without a receipt, no exceptions. Don't think they can actually do that, given the fact that it's a chain store with company-wide policies, but whatever.

Not sure what I'll do with the two unopened HD-DVDs I've got now...

Bill Geiger 01-07-08 09:04 AM

I changed my mind. I ended up selling my player on Ebay this morning. I sold it with a couple movies for $120.00. I broke even on the player and the two movies...pretty much. The $100.00+ I made selling the Jack Ryan set individually helps too. Now, just selling my remaining 14 discs.

quick question: Does the HD-DVD's versions of Harry Potter have more features on them over the Bluray versions???

I bought all the HP's during amazon bogo, and so i am wondering about keeping or returning for BD version right now.

At least for Order of the Pheonix, it's the other way around. The BR version has more special features and has all of them in HD, while they're in SD in the combo HD DVD version.

Patman 01-07-08 10:07 AM

In addition to Harry Potter 5, the HD DVD for Harry Potter 4 (Goblet of Fire) has IME on it.

There will be a lot fewer Community Screenings going forward. :(

Dammit!

I'm not quite sure I follow you, but if you asking if there is a difference between non-receipt exchanges and non-receipt returns, I would say no. Once per year w/o a receipt. Not sure if it is calendar year or 365 days between returns. Someone who works at BB should know.

OOTP has a Documentary that is in HD, and Deleted scenes in HD.
HD DVD has the Documentary as part of the PiP, and the Deleted Scenes are in HD.

HD DVD also has the community screen features, as well as IME.

QuePaso 01-07-08 11:38 AM

I wonder how long Warner will keep the servers up for web features like Community Screening? I imagine not very long.

In the return line-up at Best Buy today, I saw a lady exchanging her Toshiba HD-A30 for a Sony BDPS300. I died a little inside when I saw that ... I wanted to tell her that it was not Profile 1.1, not to mention Profile 2.0, compliant, but that would have been weird.

MetalGator311 01-07-08 01:47 PM

Went in today with 4 sealed HD-DVDs, 2 of which didn't scan (Bullitt and The Getaway). I said I wanted to swap them for BRs, the rep said "I'll just give you store credit." Took down my driver's license, so I guess this is my 1 for the year.

JackBurton 01-07-08 02:16 PM

Went to BB to exchange some HD DVDs I received as Christmas presents for their Blu equivalents. They would not allow me to exchange unless I had a store receipt or the credit card information of the person who purchased the gift for me. They said this was a company policy.

Kinda lame. It seems in the past retailers are pretty lax about exchanges right after Christmas. Now I either have to hassle out of town family for their credit card numbers or try another store.

That's not entirely correct. The BD has a really stupid faux-documentary that the HD DVD doesn't. A few of the special features are in high def. The HD DVD has an IME that's not on the BD, as well as web enabled features, but all of the documentaries are in SD.

So the BD doesn't have "more", it just has a different offering than the HD DVD.

actually the Tyson's BB - would have let me exchanged all my HD-DVD's for the BR counterparts - but I had forgotten I had already did an exchange without a receipt in the last year timeframe - drat! my friend was with me and he was able to give his info but we just got store credit instead.

This was just announced at CES regarding the PS3:

"A surprise announcement at the conference, Don Eklund from Sony Pictures revealed that Sony Pictures will make available for download via BD-Live extra content. The example shown was a video from actor Will Smith regarding his film 'Hancock' with a sneak peak of the film specifically for CES. He did mention that he is a fan of Blu-ray."

Thanks for the heads up. Maybe I'll give Tyson's a shot this evening.
