I'm a little shocked that the HD DVD group isn't holding any sort of press conference at CES. No-showing CES seems like giving up. It seems like a combination of not knowing what to say and not knowing who's willing to stand with Toshiba right now.

Univeral and Paramount getting this news on a Friday evening must have been tough. My guess is they're carefully considering their next move, possibly negotiating on what terms they could join the BDA. With everyone busy for CES and going into a weekend, things must be a bit crazy. Within a week we'll have a much clearer picture of how things will play out.

The first domino falling seems to be a statement from a Phillips exec that Target is going Blu-ray exclusive

Enough. This thread started out well enough, needed a little weeding out at point, but it has now degenerated into the kind of mindless bickering that does nothing but piss people off. I'm closing this thread for length, and I'm starting a part two, but if all I see there is the same kind of silly back and forth I'm seeing here, that one will get closed, too. Don't make me turn this place into another AVS.
