There are a lot of advantages having the two formats, specially when you have a player for the two formats. :) |

Pro-B And great news, congrats to Blu! |
The fat lady has sung it would seem.
Time to buy a PS3. |
Well now I know which one to get on my inevitable jump to HD.
|
Eh +1 for Blu, but it ain't over yet. There's still the cheap stand-alone players advantage, and Paramount and Universal exclusives coming on the HD DVD side. Now if one of them goes Blu, I'll say it's over.
Glad I'm neutral, but I'll still own more red for awhile to come. |
And now, to eagerly await the clearance sales. :)

Who knows, maybe they could even sue for breach of contract? I don't know what kind of promises were made to them, or whether Warner's announcement negates any of them. |
I'm actually thankful I held out buying the Blade Runner set as I was debating which to buy. Now I'll just pick up WB titles on Blu-Ray from here on out.
I can't see how HD-dvd can survive without WB. |

Interesting to note the reaction of red owners when faced with this kind of news compared to how the blue owners reacted when Paramount went exclusive...

I am not surprised (nor happy).
The only bad part is that I have HD-DVD in all 3 rooms we use (no regular players in the house anywhere) but only 1 BR (its a PS3). Reason --- COST. I personally don't/didn't care who one but the price for BR players is too much to have in each room. HD-DVD was so easy to get into it made it a no brainer. I WILL NOT be rebuying BRs of the HD-DVD titles I have until all of my players are toast. It's not worth it. I also don't think the death nell for HD-DVD will occur until the Paramount 18 month deal passes and then its just a matter of time. I would almost bet you that we won't see anymore good BR sales nor will BR players hit the $200 mark anytime soon (if ever). End of next year will probably be it for HD-DVD now. Fun while it lasted (even if it was still a pain in the rear). Greg |

Those cocksuckers. I hate you soooo much WB.

Look at the bright side, time to pick up cheap HD-DVDs :) Or sell if they are "rare."
Like i said before, you shouldn't buy more than one HD-DVD player, just b/c the A2 was $100... |

With DVD sales slowing down, the movie companies want something to replace DVDs, but this won't do that. It is great while we wait for the next thing, though. |
We need some D-Theatre owners here to lend us some support.

Pro-B As to this news, outstanding! I went neutral for a short while, thought better of it and am glad to have chosen blu (HD DVD player, long gone :)). This is welcome news as there are quite a few Universal and Paramount titles that I'd like to own in HD, now there appears to be an excellent chance that I'll be able to play those on my BD player. Now, I'm off to read what has been posted at thedigitalbits. |
I don't think that's the problem either, people love that phrase "High Definition", but the Blu players need to get substantially cheaper to really catch on. But until prices do come down, Blu supporters can expect many more B1G1 deals.
This news really seems to bring out the true nature of some posters on this and other sites, I wonder if they realize just how pompous and asinine they're coming across as. |
My A2 and my HD-DVDs aren't going anywhere, but I'm not going to be buying anymore (after Zodiac comes in). I've actually been buying a lot more BDs lately (including switching my Blade Runner HD pre-order to BD), so it's not a big deal to me. I like the PS3 much more than the A2 anyway.
I'd imagine we'll see a lot less B1G1 sales on BDs, which sucks. |
