Jesse James

So is this still coming out on Blu Ray or only HD DVD. I would rather have the BR version with the HD DVD being a combo

bee_01 01-03-08 11:11 PM

Both are reportedly canceled.

bunkaroo 01-03-08 11:31 PM

I"m hoping it will wind up like Blood Diamond, which missed being day and date but came out later (and cheaper).

Drexl 01-04-08 12:36 AM

If Warner can give it, they can take it. It sounds like this release has gone down in flames... just like Jesse James.

It would be nice if it was catalog-priced though.

PopcornTreeCt 01-04-08 12:53 AM

I must have missed this, what happened? I have this for pre-order with Amazon.

Frozenhamster 01-04-08 12:56 AM

Where did you hear that the HD releases were cancelled?

bikerfool 01-04-08 08:14 AM

Well that sucks. Im hoping like above. Cheaper price and it still is released

mdc3000 01-04-08 08:17 AM

If this is canceled...I'm going to go apeshit...

Ditto. Wtf happened here?

applesandrice 01-04-08 12:31 PM

Highdefdigest just posted cover art and gives no indication of any postponement or cancellation:

StephenX 01-04-08 01:02 PM

There was never a cancellation or anything like that. Not sure where that poster even heard that.

PopcornTreeCt 01-05-08 01:55 PM

Well, I have this pre-ordered at Amazon. The blu-ray version. And there's not even a link for the product anymore.

Same here, I pre-ordered both versions and neither has a link on my order summary.

Arpeggi 01-09-08 07:40 PM

It looks like the HD DVD version will be released mid-March and the Blu-ray version in late February. Sorry HD DVD, but I gotta get this film ASAP! Cancelled my HD DVD order, preordered Blu-ray.

PopcornTreeCt 01-09-08 08:00 PM

I think that's pretty cool that Warner is still releasing it on HD-DVD.

Mr. Cinema 01-09-08 08:16 PM

Blu-ray version: http://www.amazon.com/Assassination-...9931328&sr=1-6

That's consistent with WB's original announcement. Good to see it's back up for order.

Really? I think it's pretty underhanded of them to hold on to the HD-DVD version for an extra month when it's almost unquestionably going to be ready at the same time.

What may have been a purchase for me has now turned to a rental at best. I don't care to support a company that makes this sort of decision.

I think that has more to do with it being region free than them "holding on to it even though it's done". The region free aspect was the one I always felt would hurt HD DVD the most. This wasn't exactly a huge studio movie, so the international release was a bit more scattered.

matome 01-10-08 10:15 AM

Warner didn't have the region-free issue. It's New Line that was originally going to delay their HD-DVD titles for that. Warner always released BD & HD-DVD on the same day (except for Blood Diamond IIRC, but that was unrelated) prior to the exclusivity announcement. The HD-DVD delay is a new policy.

I think they pretty much have to. From what I understand, they have an a deal to release on HD DVD through May of 2008. But they can still tilt people towards Blu Ray by delaying the HD DVD release. I think that's the reason for the staggering.

I suppose. I think I noted this one specifically since it was just released this past weekend in several regions. Whereas most of their movies had closer international release schedules.

On the Warner website, they list 2/5 for DVD and Blu-Ray and 2/26 for HD DVD
