Quick question on Toshiba-A3 DVD player

Can this player be mounted on it's side?

Also, does it generate a significant amount of heat when operating? I was thinking of locating it under my couch and there would be a minimal amount of room above it (less than an inch). Would this create an issue down the road?

I wouldn't mount it.

Ok, no mounting. I just checked and will have 2.3 inches of room from the top of the dvd player to the bottom of the couch.

If there's anything worse for an optical player than excess heat, it's dust. Under the couch? Sounds like the worst of both worlds.

I purchased an A3 back in November and just noticed it's kind of noisy. Is this typical or is there something wrong with the machine? You only really notice this if the volume is low or during quiet parts of the movie.

Yeah, you might as well sit on the player.

I found this rather typical of all the new players, Blu-ray and HD DVD.

Well, it does have a fan, and mine isn't dead silent either (mostly noticable during quiet parts of a film). It's about as loud as my PS3, in other words, not loud at all, but definitely audible on some level (then again, I have really sensitive hearing, but after awhile I don't really hear it anymore unless I try to intentionally listen for it)

Yup, that's the first thing that came to my mind, too. It'll be dust-bunny central under the couch.

Yeah, it's louder compared to a regular DVD player but when I first got it, I barely noticed it.
