Questions about updating my HD-A30 player. (Problems)

First of I would like to say that I have had this player for a couple of months and have been unable to successfully update it. I tired a couple of times to update it via ethernet and it always failed shortly after it downloaded the 39 pieces of information. I even tried burning an iso disc and update it that way also with failure. Tonight I was trying to watch Mr. Bean's holiday and after about 45 minutes or so in the movie it would bring up an error code and say that it was unplayable. I would then reboot the machine and go back to where I was given the boot and it would play that section fine and then later I would get that message again. Wash and repeat. After three times of doing this my wife was not very happy. So now I'm trying to update this machine again. Also, this is not the first time that I have had problems playing an HD-Dvd or even loading one. Here are my questions:

1. Is it normal for this thing to take forever to download the necessary information via cable internet? It seems to take anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour each time I attempt to simply download the information.

2. Are there any steps I need to take to avoid it failing to update after the download thus having to start the whole f*ng process over again? Something with my system setup or a particular setting, etc?

3. Does the disc holder have to stay outside the machine during this whole process? It is kind of annoying that it is sticking out there like a sore thumb just waiting to get ripped out of the machine.

I was finally able to update the machine. It still didn't help the problems I've been having tonight with my Mr. Bean's Holiday combo set. That son of a bitch is going back tomorrow for a replacement just in case there is something wrong with the disc.
