If you purchase the CANADIAN version, you may end up getting the Final Cut on both discs 1 and 5 instead of getting the workprint on disc 5.

It's almost like a Star Wars question. Every now and then you run into someone who hasn't seen any....Not sure why lol maybe they were in a bunker the past 30 years. But I usually say watch 4-6 first just because that's how it was originally aired. So I think I might go with the theatrical first but I'm up for sugg's thanks

I would suggest watching the Final Cut first. It removes the narration and the alternate endings, which are for the better. And since you bought a HD set, you might as well start with the most visually stunning version of them all.

Received my shipping notice, too. Thanks, Amazon.

Received it today. Absolutely excited.

got my blu suitcase today.

#88912

at what point in the film should i see the alleged eye thing in Deckard's eye?

DVD Polizei 12-24-07 11:04 PM

When he starts picking his nose. It's the Final Cut, though.

whotony 12-24-07 11:09 PM

ok, how about an actual time in the film.

Standard DVD9 discs in the blu-ray set?

The fact that no one seems to have brought this up yet worries me. Disc 2 and 4 of my blu-ray set are actually standard DVD9 discs, and nothing in the packaging or anything I've seen online indicate that is what I should have expected. I'm certainly not complaining if that's the way the set is supposed to be, considering the price of the set, but can anyone else confirm that this is normal? Am I missing something somewhere?

Supermallet 12-26-07 07:19 PM

Discs 1, 3, and 5 will be on an HD DVD or Blu-ray depending on which version you buy, and discs 2 and 4 are DVD no matter which version you get.

whotony 12-26-07 08:57 PM

it has been mentioned before.

dvdtalk isn't the only place on the internet.

BTW, received my Ultimate Blu-Ray set from Amazon a few minutes ago. Popped in disc 5 and it IS the workprint. I even double checked by playing the Ridley Scott intro and it is labeled workprint.

Question for you all regarding the blu-ray briefcase: The case that holds the 5 discs, is it the cool dark case that folds open, or the standard blu-ray case that you can get separately on it's own? the picture of the back of the standard briefcase shows the nice dark one that folds open with pictures, while the picture on the back of the blu-ray briefcase shows the 5 disc stand alone case.

RockyMtnBri 12-27-07 05:22 PM

Standard Blu-Ray. I was hoping it would be so I could keep the discs separate from the case.

RockyMtnBri 12-28-07 06:04 PM

Is Deckard a replicant? Highlight the text in parantheses. (Final Cut - timestamp 1:06:35. Look at his eyes.)

DVD Polizei 12-28-07 06:25 PM

In the audio commentary by Ridley Scott, he says Deckard is not

Spoiler:
human.

So are people still getting Blu-Ray copies that have a messed up Disc 5?

Question

Something I saw that I have never seen, nor read about... Anyone notice this and could give me some feedback?

Disc Four - Nexus Generation: Fans & Filmmakers....

There was a quick scene/snippet of Deckard running through a bathroom, in what appears to be J.F. Sebastian's building at the end of the film. This was shown while one of the various talking heads was going on about something else...

and there is a (replicant?) woman floating dead in the bathtub? Very dolled up, almost clown-like looking, ala Pris...but not Pris?

It was not in the deleted scenes, nor can i find any info about the scene... Anyone see this and have any info?

Thanks.

I haven't watched all of the versions yet, but I have to agree that the Final Cut looks fantastic. What a great-looking film.

I was also trying to decide what the best version to show a newcomer would be. Everyone I know saw the theatrical first, then the director's cut.

Jamers 01-02-08 07:57 PM

Decker is not a Replicant, he's a skinjob.

If it was anything, it was one of Sebastian's toys.

Got around to watching this finally, I don't think I've finished any cut of Blade Runner before.

That said, it's a very good movie and its influences are numerous films is shown throughout. The ending isn't perfect (the rooftop sequence just comes off strangely) but the rest is pretty fantastic, I can see why the movie has its reputation.

Fantastic transfer, too.

Finally got my disc issue solved (well to be honest my disc 2 was still loose and scratched, but not as bad) and my disc 5 was the workprint.

Now that I have watched the whole set I am finally giving up on the Theatrical as my favorite. After seeing the workprint and the new Final Cut I get just how forced and out of place the narration is. That said the movie is still pretty damn confusing the first time through without it. Maybe I liked the final cut more because I knew the info in the narration ahead of time.

Anyway, it is great that every version is there along with some great extras so this is easily the best home video release of 2007 and maybe ever. I don't even remember any of the $200+ LD collectors sets being this loaded.
