Updating HT to full HD?

Hi all.
I'm looking to do a full upgrade to HD for my HT setup and have a question. Since I can't drop the money to do this all at once, I'd like to start with the receiver and the DVD, going to an HDMI receiver and an HD-DVD player. My question lies with this and my current non-HDMI HDTV. If I get a Toshiba HD-A3 and an HDMI receiver of some form, can I still take advatage of the stardard DVD upconversion by going from the receiver to the HDTV with component? It would be HD-DVD>HDMI to RECEIVER>Component to HDTV. I know I wouldn't get 1080p, since my TV doesn't support that, but any upconversion would be good.

Thanks for the help.

I think anything coming into the television has to be HDMI if you want upconversion of SDDVDS. HD1080P can be done via component.
