Both. Won a 60gig PS3 a couple months ago, and bought an A2 Friday morning.

I honestly didn't read his post that way. This board is cool. And plenty here seem to own and use BD, which I doubt many HD-DVD users on this forum really care about. But you go to some other boards, especially a blu-ray exclusive forum, and it is pretty pathetic reading. Either lots of them are truly 15 yeard olds, or otherwise, they take this whole format "war" way too seriously. They can spin any positive HD-DVD news in ways you couldn't imagine.

Oh, and me, I'm just HD-DVD for a couple of months now, but have nothing against BD and may go there if the price comes down enough on a player.

both for me too. I waited for about a week after HD-DVD came out to read reviews and when everything sounded good I jumped and bought my XA1. I wanted Blu-Ray as well so I wasn't limited as to what I can watch and I wanted a PS3 so I looked at that as my 2For1 deal there(play BDs and games for cheaper than every other option avail.). I actually planned on the PS3 as a temp player so I could evaluate BD but as it turned out it was an amazing BD player so I dropped my plans of getting a standalone unit.

for me it is great to just look at the movies and not the format when I want to buy.

Both for nearly a year now. HD DVD has better titles for my taste and is my preferred format but BR has titles I dont want to miss.

Blu-ray for now. I'm open to getting HD-DVD but it'll probably be Christmas before I seriously consider it.

Both for me. Too many titles only available on one format to not own both.

I've gone format neutral, but purchase the bulk of my software in BD discs and rarely purchase HD-DVD discs. I have to keep track of which movies I can watch in the home theatre vs. the family room. So, I've decided to extend my BD collection and wait on the remaining HD-DVD movies to show up on BD (whenever that is ).

Seriously, I purchase those movies that I want on either format with emphasis on BD.

You know... from the poll numbers, this forum's majority is toward HD-DVD... While i got nothing against HD-DVD supporters, but the poll result of the other thread about buying a 2nd HD-DVD player kinda pissed me off...

I understand the need to buy both format players to enjoy HD, but buying a 2nd HD-DVD player while not owning a BD player is plain arrogant and fan boyish... You got cash, good for you, so buy a BD player too then! You're stocking up for friends and relatives, power to you too. However, what kind of BS logic to own two HD-DVD players and no BD player for yourself? You do know that you'll need two HD TVs to enjoy both players right? Again, that's a lot of moola there and if you do have that kind of cash, i don't see any reason why you're holding back on a BD player.

Well, me personally, I bought 2 HD-DVD players during this whole sale (for myself). I'm getting a new 42" HDTV for my main room and a 26" for my bedroom anyway so why not spend $98 for a player for that room. All told I spent about $300 for 2 players whereas I would have to spend $400 for ONE PS3 blu-ray player. If BR players were $200, I would've gone that route but as it stands, I'm not willing to spend $400 for one yet...

You do realize the cheapest BD player is $400 right? Many people now have HDTVs in two rooms (I do) and getting a player for $100 or $200 with a shitload of free movies is a no brainer. You already own HD DVDs why not watch some of them in the other room too.

Okay... two HD-DVD players in two rooms... good for you really... but even at $100, you're not getting much out of it, the only thing you get out it is the convenience of watching HD-DVD in any of the two rooms. Now, i don't know about you, but for me, if i can watch the movie on the 46" over the 26", why the hell i want to watch it on the 26"???

Unless the TVs are shared, but even then i'm not gonna upgrade the kiddies' room with a HD-DVD player, not that can't afford, it's just pointless...

So, pardon me for still not seeing your logic in buying two HD-DVD players! Yes, the BD player is $400, but god's sake, if you haven't spent $100 on the 2nd HD-DVD player, you can use it to buy the BD player, sigh...

well with the Samsung combo player now bumped to the first on January - I might have to jump the gun and buy a PS3 and ask for a HD-DVD for my birthday, next month (or vice versa). Been enjoying my BR/HD discs at my friends place.

All i'm saying, you can't duplicate your self (if i can, i won't be wasting this gift on watching movies), so at $100, it's still a bad buy for a 2nd one... Rebates are good for one, but i know you can use another address blah blah...

I'm not trying to attack you... in that case, why don't buy a 2nd PS2, PS3 or X360? Well, you already own the games, so why not enjoy them in the other room too.

Before you say the price thing... let me just say, the PS2 is around $100 (definitely this holiday), there are pretty good X360 bundles, definitely make the 2nd buy more attractive... Forget about the 2nd PS3 for now...

If you want to play any old PS2 games, you have to buy the more expensive model (IIRC).

Also, Ocelot, why do you care? Yeah, I'm going to have a 26" TV in my room only because my current TV is a pain the ass trying hook up or move. With the A2 being $98, I figured why not. I got the A3 for my main room and got 10 free movies with that deal (plus another 5 for the A2).

If/when BR players come down in price ~$200, I'll get one. Until then I'll enjoy HD-DVD.

Yeah, owning more than two HD players after going format neutral, that i can understand... I believe tonymontana got a bet somewhere... something like he's gonna give away his HD-DVD player or something

If the price is affordable then convience is worth the cost. I own 2 PS2s and a PS1. I own 2 GameCubes. I also own 2 Xbox consoles. This is because I have a son and it is more convient to have a console hooked up in the living room and a separate one to take to a bedroom. This only became an option for most because the hardware was around $100 or even less in some cases.

That said, you do realize a game console is much easier to move room to room, but lets get to the real issue here. It only costs $100 to have the convience of watching your HD DVD collection you have already invested in another room. When you are talking an HD DVD deck it is not that much fun to haul it room to room.

I can see why someone that has already invested in an HD collection would pay a measly extra hundred to have players hooked up to 2 HDTVs. This seems prefectly logical to me. What doesn't is spending $400 plus the cost of new discs for a new format if you are currently happy with what you are getting from HD DVD.

For the record I have a 52" HDTV in the living room and a 46" HDTV in the bedroom. I'm getting my money's worth out of the extra player.

Agreed.

Honestly, If I hadn't had problems with PS1 games via component video from the PS2, I'd still be PS3-free. Blu-ray wasn't worth the $350 to me (I paid that for my 20GB PS3 this summer).

The BD studios just don't seem to be my thing and my HD discs far outnumber the BD (I think between me and the wife it's about 7 BD : 30 HD-DVD). The few BD titles I was interested in turned out to be releases stripped of special features (like Memento). I'm not double dipping for a disc that lacks stuff the DVD has.

I almost bought a spare player + 5 free discs for $129 and I don't even know what I would do with the spare player. The new 5 free list is pretty good.

Neutral with PS3 and 360 add-on.

Those others who are neutral... how do you pick if you want to buy, say, a Warner title available in both formats? Do you look for differences in bonus features? Audio options? I'm even wondering if RROD should be a factor.

For me its hard... In fact I have the Shining on BD and A Clockwork Orange on HD-DVD (only because all they was The Shining on BD and my wife picked up ACO for me and she just picks up whatever she sees first). For a while, I was thinking BD just because it looked like they were beginning to pull away for this whole "war" stuff. But now, I look at whatever I can get the best deal on.

I used to get the HD-DVD version for any dual format title. And I still do if there are extra features like IME. But lately I've switched over to Blu-ray for most Warner Bros. releases. For titles like A Clockwork Orange and Smallville Season 6, it made sense since there were fewer discs needed thanks to the extra 20 GB of space.

Another thing I like about WB's Blu-ray discs is that they usually go with PCM instead of Dolby TrueHD. I've heard reports about some sort of adjusting they do to their TrueHD tracks which makes them slightly inferior to PCM. I have no idea if this is true, but I figure why even take the risk.

One definite plus of the Blu-ray versions is that I can skip over the FBI warning and WB logo screens on my PS3. I can't do the same on my Toshiba HD-DVD players. I still have no idea why this is the case.

As far as upcoming titles, I'll probably be getting Blade Runner on Blu-ray as well. I was very impressed with the seamless branching on Spider-man 2 & 2.1 on the PS3, and one of the discs in the Blade Runner set will feature 3 different cuts of the film. I have no idea if the Toshiba players can handle this as well as the PS3.
