PS3 at Amazon
Blu-Ray Discs at Amazon

Similar to the HD DVD deal, if you get a Playstation 3 from Amazon, you can pick any 3 BluRay movies from this list, and get 5 more by mail

How to get the deal:

1. Add the PS3 to cart
2. Add any of the movies from this list
3. Discount will show on the LAST PAGE, right before submitting the order.

Some of the more expensive movies to make it the cheapest (only found 3):

* Ice Age - The Meltdown [Blu-ray] $27.95
* The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen [Blu-ray] $27.95
* X-Men - The Last Stand [Blu-ray] $27.95

The above 3 will net you the PS3 and movies for $499.99 - $27.95 = $472.04

Other movies (not as expensive, but still good):

* The Messengers [Blu-ray] $26.95
* Premonition [Blu-ray] $26.95
* Stomp the Yard [Blu-ray] $26.95
* Stranger Than Fiction [Blu-ray] $26.95
* The Pursuit of Happyness [Blu-ray] $26.95
* Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut) [Blu-ray] $24.95
* Night at the Museum [Blu-ray] $24.95

No tax and free shipping for most

Good deal. If only I didn't purchase tickets for Vegas I might jump on this. Gonna probably wait until Christmas time to get a player.

Wow, a thread informing dvdtalk members of a great deal quickly got ugly. With both of these Amazon deals, we can cover all our bases in this ridiculous "war."

Couldn't you use the Sony Credit Card to purchase the PS3 from Amazon and get the $150 credit plus the 5 rebate Blu-rays plus the 3 Blu-rays from the offer?
The Sony credit card offer states the promo expires Sept. 30. and this promo for the Amazon bundle lasts until September 23.

I believe the catch would be that you would be unable to purchase from Amazon until you physically received the card. By then the Amazon offer may run out. However, if you really want a PS3 you could always fall back on buying it from SonyStyle.

The Sony deal only works with a purchase from sonystyle.com or at a Sony style retail store.

Crap. I remembered the offer expiration date and what I thought was a detail that the qualifying purchase from sonystyle could be small, like $15, to get the credit which could be applied towards some future purchase from anywhere. I actually found the current offer and I guess they revised it and upped the no minimum I remembered to $299 which pretty much forces you to buy from them...

Unfortunately, the 60gb has been out-of-stock online there for about 10 days.

Placed an order a week ago, still waiting.

Purged the inevitable torrent of fanboy shit. If you're not interested in Blu-ray, read another thread, for crying out loud.

I'm thinking of jumping on this to go format neutral. I don't know much about the PS3.

Is there any difference between this 60GB player and the new 80GB model (other than the extra 20GB)?

Is the 60GB HD big enough for the average user? Two years from now I don't want to kick myself for not choosing the 80GB version.

Does this come with an HDMI cable?

Will this be forward compatible with the new and future Blu Ray features?

The 80 gig version uses software emulation to play PS2 games, and it doesn't support as wide a variety as the 60 gig PS3.

I think that's the only difference, though.

I'd say 'yeah'. That's an enormous amount of data.

No.

Unknown, although I'd tend to think so.

I went ahead and bit on my 2nd PS3. Too good of a deal to pass up considering I just signed up for a new Sony credit card which gives me 100 dollars off my first purchase. So I ended up getting a new PS3 and 8 blurays for 375. Not bad at all. Thanks Amazon!

Super deal...trying very hard to resist though, because I feel the longer I hold out the better the deals come.

Any idea when this offer the Buy 2 Get 1 Free ends?

Isn't that first purchase from Sonystyle, not any retailer?

Yes, the fine print now says the credit will only be applied with purchase from Sonystyle online or a Sony store.

"The fine print"? In the past, it's always been in like 48-point font. Something along the lines of: "Get a $100 credit after your first Sonystyle purchase."

I'm now format neutral. Picked up the PS3 with Messengers, Kingdom Of Heaven and Alien Vs Predator for $475 shipped. Also got POTC 1&2 and Night At The Museum for $48.90 and then got Haunted Mansion, Kung Fu Hustle and King Arthur for $29.90 shipped.

I got a HDMI Switch and 2 HDMI cords for $34.85 shipped at monoprice.com. And I'll probably pick up a PS3 remote at Amazon for $25.

Is there anything else I need for the PS3? I seem to recall the PS2 needed some extra stuff like a memory card.

Alright, this was too ridiculous of a good deal to pass up. I'm now a dual format supporter. A PS3 plus nine movies for $495 is fantastic.

I have to admit that The Lives of Others is what made me get it.

When I signed up for my card about a month ago, I signed up under the promo for 100 dollars off my first purchase from any retailer. I double checked with a Chase representative and she told me that was correct.

A nice thing about PS3 is the ability to use an off-the-shelf hard drive to upgrade. 60GB not enough? Buy a 320GB and put it in.

Should be more than enough, but if not, then I'm really screwed because I went with the 20g when they were still available.

Does the PS3 still come with Taladega Nights?

Nope. Just the console, a controller, a USB charging cable, and composite video, if I remember correctly.

Glad I jumped in on it.

Shipping estimate: September 28.

Nice to see they're sending it in 17th Class Mail.
