Still working. Not sure what you are seeing. I just tried it.

In my cart right now. I'm about to become a dual supporter (still without a HD TV...). Darn you all and amazon for making this hard to resist.

Trevor 08-30-07 09:20 AM

Ok, deal is not quite as good now. You still get the 3/8 free movies, but it is no longer deducting the price of one title from your cart. I'm holding off for now....

OK, explain that last bit.

I think people were confused because it's a little "cart before the horse". ;)

Edit: Yeah, a little proofreading helps now and then.

Yeah, it's just taken a few good deals to get me to jump. I already had 3 Blu-ray movies from the BB $5.99 glitch. But then $210 for the A2 and 8 HDs was too good to pass up, and now this if the "glitch" works again.

I've been looking at HDTVs for like a year now, will make the jump "soon". Maybe this weekend at BB since they have another 12% off coupon and I have a couple hundred bucks in RZ certs.

Probably will start small, and just get a 40 something inch in the cheaper range. Then, once I learn what I should have bought, that will go in the other room and I'll get something nicer for my main viewing room.

An excellent plan.

I meant it. Stop delaying the decision and just get into HD now. Then enjoy that set and spend 3 years researching your next one. Then you can have two sets.

:)

Here's some more stupid newbie questions for my new PS3. I didn't do any research before snatching one during the Amazon sale. So I'm in the dark right now.

Can the PS3 stand on it's side (up and down)? I seem to recall the PS2 had this ability with a little foot adapter. Will standing the PS3 on it's side have any long-term effects? Will it effect Blu Ray playback?

Is there an input on the PS3 for the PS2 memory cards? If not, how do I transfer saved games to PS3? Will I need to buy some kind of adapter or dongle?

Is there a master list of PS2 games that won't work on the PS3?

Am I gonna need batteries for the controller? If so, what kind?

Am I going to need any other accessories (besides the HDMI cable and Blu Ray remote)?

Thanks.

Good questions Dave, but you might want to look in the video game forum. I believe there is a "one and only PS3 thread".

1. Yes you can stand the PS3 vertical.

2. No, there are no PS2 memory slots. There is a $15 adapter you can buy.

3. This is the 60GB unaltered PS3, meaning 98% of the game library should work without a hitch.

4. No batteries for the controller, it's all internal and charges via USB cable

5. only comes with composite cables so if you aren't doing HDMI then you would need both component and and optical cable.

Yes, you can stand the PS3 vertically. That's how I have mine. Most PS3 pictures from Sony show it that way. Blu-Ray plays just fine with it vertical. Ours is standing on a carpeted floor, and although it seemed very stable, I got a $15 stand at GameStop (probably cost 15 cents to make) for piece of mind that it won't tip over accidentally.

Here's a couple of places to check for PS2 game compatability:
http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus
http://www.ps3comp.com/

You don't need to get any batteries for the controller. It has a battery in it that is recharged by plugging a supplied cable into the controller and one of the USB ports on the PS3.

TheBigDave 08-30-07 06:43 PM

Thanks for all the info on the PS3. It's coming tomorrow and I'm really excited.

Krelyan 08-30-07 11:51 PM

I had the PS3 and 3 Blu-Ray discs in my cart and was able to get $499 at checkout. Now a few mins later, I'm not getting the promotional discount. Is this deal completely dead now?

Edit: Apparently signing up for Amazon Prime kills the deal.

outcastja 08-30-07 11:55 PM

I ordered my PS3 four days before this deal hit, so I called up Amazon, first CSR wouldn't give me the three free Blu-Rays, but second time I called, I got it. Sucks I didn't get to take advantage of the glitch, saving an extra $28 but at least I got three free movies out of it.

Krelyan: I think that's a glitch. If you call them they will give you the three free Blu-Ray discs.

Yeah, I finally got it through... after five CS Reps and 3 cancelled orders... Jeebus.

Some of the more expensive movies to make it the cheapest (only found 3):

* Ice Age - The Meltdown [Blu-ray] $27.95
* The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen [Blu-ray] $27.95
* X-Men - The Last Stand [Blu-ray] $27.95

The above 3 will net you the PS3 and movies for $499.99 - $27.95 = $472.04

Pro-B

I am curious how you were able to get the $472.04 price instead of $499.99? The offer is for 3 free movies, but the above price would reflect 4 free movies of $27.95. Or am i missing something?

DVD Polizei 09-03-07 12:15 AM

Trevor,

Seems like a good plan to me. We're getting into the Fall of 2007 so HDTVs are going to be slashed in price from last year's models. I already see my HDTV for $150 less (regular price by the way) than when I bought it in late April of this year. There's only so much Blu-ray and HD DVD players can be cut, and the biggest amount of cuts is in the HDTV prices, so you made a good plan.

The first day or so, there was a glitch that combined the "buy 2 get one free" deal with the "buy the PS3 get 3 free BD" deal. It gave you three free, and then "double free" on one title, subtracting that title's price from your total.

Rob V 09-03-07 06:50 PM

I jumped on the Sony Style deal. Im willing to wait a few weeks for the 60GB PS3 for that price. It'll be my second PS3 - this one's for the plasme in our bedroom... not quite sure how Im going to tell my wife though :)

Does anyone know what kind of return policy Amazon has on this? I may rather spend more at coscto and get the lifetime warranty

They changed this months ago, 90 days only now.
