Heroes an HDDVD exclusive?

Who puts this out? It has me very intrigued with the 10% Amazon deal and the fact that it is already at $69.95 there. Just not sure I will watch it again. Great to see it unfold, but I don't know that I would rewatch it.

It's Universal, so yes, it's an exclusive.

(NBC = Universal, for the most part. Seinfeld is Sony's property. I know, TV is weird.)

Heroes is an HD-DVD exclusive. If you buy from Amazon, you can use the coupon code: "tvguide5" for an extra 5% off in addition to the 10% discount. I think mine came out to less than $60 before tax. Hope that helps. It's gotten stellar reviews so far: http://dvd.ign.com/articles/813/813943p1.html.

Thatks for the code. I happen to have $62.xx in credit there, which would cover it all. Still not sure I would rewatch it, but that's a great price.

If you bought a high def player or three discs in 2006, they gave you a 10% discount on high def media, which they extended through this year.

Another review:

I don't think it's coincidental that the Paramount/Dreamworks announcement came the week before the Heroes HD DVD release. This is a big release for HD DVD, and any fan of the show who was even remotely considering buying an HD DVD player to watch it now has much more incentive.

I'm never one to go on HDD's ratings, but I have to say I was already leaning towards not blind buying this, and a 3.5/5 PQ rating with mention of pervasive noise is making that decision a lot easier.

It'll be Netflix for me.

This is the conclusion I came to recently with TV series' - esp hour long drama's. I barely have time to watch em thru the first time let alone watch again. As far as tv shows go, yeah Heroes was pretty good (doesn't compare to films though) - I thought a lot of it was unintentionally funny and cheesy, but still entertaining.

Does either the HD or SD version contain the comic? I never got around to reading it.

Why the fuck is the HDdvd of Heroes almost twice the price of the standard dvds?

It's bullshit like this that keeps these formats from succeeding.

New technology always costs more at first. Where have you been?

If a show is very good, I end up watching 4-5 episodes in a row at night. A couple of nights like this and the season is done.

I call shenanigans on your reasoning - I know new technology costs more, but double? Especially since other HDdvds are not double the price of their SDdvd counterparts.

First of all, it's not double. If you are going to make this hyper technical argument, then you need to be accurate. It's 80% more. 1.8x.

HD and BD aren't selling well. They represent a small portion of the market (about 2% right now). TV on HD and BD must be way, way under 1%. There has to be a premium pricing.

If you think this is bad, you should see Lost S3 BD pricing vs. SD.

So the real question is, will Heroes on HD DVD look 1.8x better than the DVD?

Reading comprehension: My first post I stated "almost" double - 80% is almost enough for me - I don't see why you have to nitpick this. And you also, conveniently, skirt the issue of how every other HD vs SD pricing isn't as big a difference as it is here, for some reason.

For example, Hot Fuzz, also from Universal has an MSRP of $30 for the dvd and $40 for the HD - that's only 35% more, and the HD is not only a combo, but has a bunch of exclusive extras not on the regular dvd.

The real math:

Heroes DVD: $59.98
Heroes HD DVD: $99.98

% increase ($99.98 - $59.98) / $59.98 = $40/$59.98 = 66.7% more, or 1.667. Thank you very much!

Jesus, why does eveything on this forum require arguements on trivial matters?
