Catalog releases? Does this mean Edward Scissorhands and Robocop are cancelled as well?

To be fair, they were forced out early due to the Paramount/Dreamworks news. The BDA had to do something, so I'm sure a call was placed to Fox to 'announce something' and thats what happened. Fox loves to be a cheerleader of Blu-ray yet can never actually fulfill any promises.

Supermallet 09-16-07 10:19 PM

I didn't want to be the one to say it, but I think that is exactly what happened. Fox's hand was forced by the Paramount announcement, and now they're backing off from stuff they didn't want to announce in the first place.

DthRdrX 09-16-07 10:35 PM

I personally think Fox should issue a press release stating they will be releasing all of their A+ titles on Dec. 25, you know, just to see how many run out and buy a player!

Exactly. I'm sure they have a 'working list' of movies they WANT to release eventually and thats what got out on that special Monday. This would explain the cancellation of Amityville and M&C, as well as the late addition of 28 Days Later. If Fox announced a few more cancellations tomorrow I wouldn't be shocked. Its fully expected and its why I will hold onto my SD DVD of any movie they announce until I physically see it in the stores.

Fox is back ... to their old tricks!

Giles 09-17-07 09:55 AM

I'm am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooo ANGRY about the BluRay edition of Robocop - thanks Fox, a trailer, yeah woohoo!

The movie isn't on there too?

it wouldn't surprise me if Fox just threw on the R-rated cut and called it a day - trailer + r-rated version, sounds something Fox would do.

I don't know . . . if it gets cancelled, maybe they'll get serious about releasing a version with special features to match the 2 disc DVD. Nobody should have to just be thankful that a particular film is scheduled for release; we shouldn't have to settle!

MGM releases are definitely getting the shaft as it looks like Fox is starting to load the extras on their own releases. Hopefully MGM will follow sometime soon...

Question, why is Master and Commander still up on foxbd.com. If it was to be cancelled, wouldn't there be a statement saying that it has been postponed indefinitely since it's only two weeks away.

There's no precedence for them to explain any of their moves.

Funny, I don't recall an announcement the last time they delayed/canceled 21 movies. Don't expect to see it.

Sad but true.

WTF is wrong with these idiots?

So it's assumed the first delay was due to BD+. Is that still the case? or is it now BD-50 production issues?

I love Fox films and Blu-Ray but damn they are making it hard not to resent them right now.

"resent" is possibly the most subtle word you could use to describe Fox. I could use alot more harsher words.

Bill Hunt's note:

"In terms of release news, 20th Century Fox has just informed us that their Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World Blu-ray Disc, which had been set for release on 10/2, has been temporarily delayed. Apparently, during QC, Fox discovered an authoring problem that could cause problems on a small number of Blu-ray players, so they decided to correct it. The studio tells me that they hope to announce the new street date later this week."
The title should be moved a bit further...I believe about 3 weeks.

Where does "3 weeks" come from?

Mr. Cinema 09-18-07 04:21 PM

I won't believe Master and Commander is on BD until it's in my hands.

Thank you very much! This is one of my favorite movies of all time and I will be extremely happy as long as I can get it before the year is done.

Adam Tyner 09-20-07 12:40 PM

Master and Commander is due out in February, according to a Fox-sponsored blog.

Weeks, months, it's all the same to ProB.

Adam Tyner 09-20-07 01:10 PM

If you take issue with Pro-B's stance, feel free to point out any flaws you see (or think you see; whatever the polite way is to write that), but don't take those sorts of snide jabs.

I PM'ed and insider on a different forum. And that is precisely what was pointed out. Why is now the title pushed all the way into 2008 is beyond me.

Pro-B

ps
Most everyone of the registered insiders have stopped supplying pre-release dates, and specifically, titles at Blu-Ray.com. In fact, aside from some generic technical comments advanced info is practically absent. Most likely because of inconsistencies like the one above.

Damed 11-09-07 11:25 AM

Ronin and Red Dawn have been canceled/delayed indefinitely.

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh..._Releases/1159

bunkaroo 11-09-07 12:54 PM

Here we go again.

It also seems like Rescue Dawn might not be out day and date either.

At least I just got a nice looking HDnet recording of Ronin.

The Bus 11-09-07 12:58 PM

What's frustrating is that Fox isn't even the only studio dropping the ball. Most studios have made some pretty big errors all through this HD nonsense.

Qui Gon Jim 11-09-07 02:31 PM

I had a bad feeling when I saw this thread bumped. Hopefully these cancellations are isolated and not a symptom of another major change in Fox's stance towards HDM now that BD+ has been defeated...

Gizmo 11-09-07 02:50 PM

Ugh. Here it goes again...bye Fox.

Qui Gon Jim 11-09-07 04:40 PM

You know, it really sucks too if they abandon it. Fox holds the key to me getting the Star Wars films in HD. I know it wouldn't have been for a while but each time this happens, I feel like that day slips further and further away.

PerryD 11-09-07 05:37 PM

The fact that many of the Fox titles are 40% off on Amazon is a good sign that they know they are overcharging their customers at $40 MSRP. Independance Day showed up in my Gold Box today, so with my 10% off discount, the final price was around $20.

The Bus 11-09-07 07:02 PM

Rescue Dawn seems to NOT be cancelled, at least.

Arpeggi 11-09-07 07:07 PM

Fuck, I knew Ronin would be cancelled. FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly my reasoning for not buying any Fox/MGM titles yet. In fact, the only titles interesting me from them are The Fly, the 28 Days/Weeks movies (and I heard the former wasn't that good), the first three Die Hards, Edward Scissorhands, and The Simpsons Movie.

Wrong, George Lucas holds the key to you getting Star Wars in HD. If he called up Murdoch tomorrow and said, "I want Star Wars available in two-disc sets, with the film on Blu-ray on one disc, and HD DVD on the other, and it comes in a full-size replica of an X-Wing," Fox would do it.

What Fox DOES hold the key to, though, are movies like Alien, Patton, Fight Club, etc. They have a rich and varied catalog, and at the rate they're going, the best we're going to get from them is Independence Day.

Well, the first was filmed at (IIRC) below-DVD resolution.

They had a pretty eclectic slate on D-VHS, I'd bet we see at least a couple of their better back catalog titles -- Alien and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, at a minimum -- in the next year or so. Fox does seem less timid than most studios (with the exception of Warner) at announcing movies from before 2000. Actually releasing them, on the other hand...

Here's their full list of D-VHS releases. A fair number of these have already shown up on BD, so it might be a decent indicator of what else is to come.

Courage Under Fire
Daredevil
The Day After Tomorrow
Die Hard
Don't Say A Word

High Crimes
I, Robot
Ice Age
Independence Day
