the $40 tag most likely gonna sell at $30... With a little patience, you can get the movies under $20.

Any $40 list discs (Fox, Paramount, Uni) usually result in a 27.95 price at Amazon.

For people like me that have Prime and got in on the 10% discount, these titles will cost ~$25 shipped. I can live with that, even on bare bones catalog titles I love (Cast Away, ID4, etc.)

Hell, I've paid $30-$40 for HD DVD and Blu-Ray imports for stuff like The Rock, Crimson Tide, Starship Troopers, Enemy At The Gates and Perfume.

It hasn't been mentioned in this thread, but this is really just the same old crap Fox pulled in the early days of DVD. When DVDs had a retail of $25 & $30 Fox entered the game with recycled non-anamorphic transfers for a premium of $35.

None of us with long memories were surprised by Fox's bare-boned, MPEG2 $40 blu-rays. I did wonder now they're getting around to finally releasing a second wave, if they might have seen some light about pricing, espcially for catalog titles. I should have known better!

Fox did turn into a great DVD company. But in the beginning, they were appalling. Looks like history might be repeating itself here.

These prices are terrible! $28 for a catalog title that most people already own on DVD.

WB offers coupons that reduce their catalog titles to $16 each on average.

And WB actually ports over all the extras from the DVD, so you can sell off your old copy and make back a few bucks.

Better hold on to your SDs then, we'll let you know how they look. ;)

Given their track record for multiple releases of the same title, Fox is really missing a bet by staying exclusive to Blu-ray. Just think: if they were to release the same featureless catalogue titles on both formats now, affixing their high-binder $40 MSRP to each, then in another 6 months to a year, they can start coming out with "special limited ultimate extreme" editions in steelbook cases with linticular covers and re-sell the same titles on both formats yet again. They could totally be taking advantage of both sides instead of just sticking it to one! Well, two, I suppose, when you remember that's what they've been doing for years on DVD . . .

At 25 bucks a pop, the only ones worth the money are The Fly (if it's the CE), Robocop (if it's unrated), Edward Scissorhands, Die Hard, Die Hard with a Vengeance, and Independence Day (barely).

Fox pricing is definately not making things any easier.

Fox doesn't have a good track record for carrying over DVD bonus features to the Blu-ray edition.

From what I hear, we are losing most of the extras on The Fly. *sigh*

Unfortunately I've heard that about the Fly also. So $40 MSRP for a bare bones (or close to it) catalog release. Awesome. Talk to me when they come inline with every other studio on either format.

Looks like my Fox collection stays at zero for awhile longer.

Why is it so hard for Fox to include extras? The stakes have been raised and you would think they would take a hint.

They are the ONLY studio that prices all catalog titles at $39.99 and leaves off most extras. Why be different, in a bad way? Why?

Fox is a HD-DVD double agent, purposely putting out blu-ray with no extras and higher prices to make blu-ray fail.

You guys crack me up. At least Fox is maybe going to put out the movies on blu-ray. Still seems like lip service at the moment though.

As Fox owns MGM will the MGM releases be region locked or all region??
