I'm just thankful that it appears Cast Away is still on schedule for 12/4. I can't wait to hear the plane crash in DTS HD MA! The DTS track on the dvd was one of the best ones I have heard.

I can't wait for Alien.

Adam, you're right about D-VHS. But I don't think the team in charge of D-VHS is in charge of BD. They seem to have a completely different attitude about it all.

The Abyss
Alien
Aliens
Commando
Fight Club
Predator
True Lies
X-Men
X2

C'mon Fox, I'll pay $320 for those! Wall Street and Me, Myself, and Irene are great movies, but most certainly not the first I think of with regards to HD. (I might get Wall Street since I haven't grabbed the new SE yet.)

Still, Fox (and every other BD-exclusive studio) seems to be slow at outputting catalog titles.

Also, IIRC, D-VHS didn't have the copy protection issues that the disc-based formats have had, which is probably a big reason why they supported it in the first place.

I think that's a direct result of the PS3 being the majority of BD players out there. Studios think that gamers don't care about catalog titles, only recent blockbusters.

To be fair, the HD DVD camp hasn't been considerably better. Universal has churned out a lot of catalog titles but hasn't released an outright 'classic' since January, Paramount/Dreamworks haven't bothered with their back catalog to any real extent, and the Weinstein Company aren't releasing anything at all, let alone some of the older films they have at their disposal. Warner is the only studio on either format with any demonstrated interest in catalog titles.

True, but when Universal gets a lot of respect for some of their choices to release. I thought Streets of Fire and Darkman would be far reaches for HD DVD, but it happened.

Getting back on topic, is Edward Scissorhands worth upgrading? The screencaps I saw were captivating. And any opinions on The Fly?

PopcornTreeCt 11-11-07 12:50 AM

Edward Scissorhands is definitely worth upgrading. It's one of the nicest Blu-ray transfers I've seen.

Supermallet 11-11-07 04:43 AM

I put rent it as my advice for Edward Scissorhands. Despite the excellent transfer, the sound didn't seem much better than the DVD, and they left off extras. My recommendation was for the list price of $40 though, so if you can find it cheaper it might be worth it.
