X360 HD DVD Add-On + 300 + King Kong + 5 Free HD DVD by mail- $179.99 at BestBuy 8/19

Looks like Best Buy has another whizbang promo for next week:

"I just got the heads up on next weeks promo. The 360 add-on will be selling at its new price of 179.99 with the remote, King Kong, and a free copy of 300. This coupled with the five free movies offer should hopefully entice many of the fence sitters to jump on board. "

NICE!
I have a picture of the ad...not sure if I can post it or not though.

I'm surprised anyone is brave enough to even post information after the articles I read about Speedy.

Awesome deal though, I know some friends and family that will probably be all over this. Thanks for the heads up.

Buy it. Sell the drive on ebay and keep the movies. And yes this is if you already have a HD-DVD player.

I don't own an HD player yet but I really don't want the 360 add on. Any good reviews for this one?

I believe there is a thread concerning this in the feedback section here at DVDTalk. Geoff (and CheapyD from CAG) have been mum on details and I suggest we don't bring it up until we hear otherwise. I have a picture of the BB ad with the deal above, but will not post it as I don't want to give Geoff anymore grief that it may occur. If a picture is allowed I'd be glad to post it.

I use the hd drive and it works great, but I haven't used or seen a different drive for a comparison as all my friends that have hd use the x-box drive.

It's a specific cable. I bought a couple on ebay for about $10 each + shipping a while ago.

I'm going to bite on this deal. 300 + King Kong seals the deal.

Does anyone know ?

If this deal will work retroactively? I bought my HD-DVD player for the 360 back in April. The Toshiba 5 Free rebate form only states that the player had to be bought between 3/1 and 9/30.

Is the standard rebate form the same one for the 360 (since MS's pres release says that Toshiba has extended the rebate to the 3630 add-on).

I'm going to go ahead and try sending in for it anyway.

The Toshiba rebate form is only for the Toshiba players. The XBox 360 has it's own rebate form with a different start date. Link

Well, that changes my mind then.

edit-> I couldn't get 2.50 shipping. Was that a coupon or something they just recently pulled?

Yeah, I picked up the add-on drive with the promo King Kong for $169.24 at my local Wal-Mart. The way I see it, with the 5 free HD DVD's deal, I was paid $ $10.76 to buy the drive. I blogged about it here: http://www.matthilton.net/ Hehehe....Bill Gates is my b**ch!

I think I'm finally going to bite on this deal. I've been on the fence for a long time and I've been really happy with my Blu-ray player (PS3 really), but I love a lot of the stuff that Universal has in its catalog. At this price with King Kong, 300, and Casablanca (even though the other 4 free titles are icing on the cake, none are titles I'd consider purchasing), I don't think I can pass it up.
