Bourne Ultimatum should sell well.

Overall, Blu ray outsold HD DVD by about 2:1.

I would like to see a thread like this every week.

very informative

its kinda depressing to see that the top 10 list not exactly corresponding with the graph of titles that control the market share.

2 outta 10 are HD - Ouch!
8 outta 10 for BD - Nice!

It's interesting to see the 'legs' that some of those Blu-ray titles have too. The fact that some of those movies have been out for a little while seems to suggest that these are the first discs people are buying when they pick up a player.

I'd love to see the source data. I'm sure it's not selective or biased in any way shape or form.

It's from VideoScan, and although they're not definitive (some online retailers and Wal-Mart are excluded), it's generally considered reliable.

Or maybe it's that they're the only titles which have even sold this week, and it's only been 7 or 8 copies a piece . . .

My Wal-mart only carries BD. However, it's only about a dozen titles. They did add 300 on HD-DVD this week though.

I'd like to see the sales results from warner home video for the last 6 months. Those coupon codes are making the HD and BD prices very affordable.

if that's true then for every two copies of Bourne that were sold, one copy of Casino Royale was sold (and pretty much every other BD on that list as well) as that's what the ratio number implies.

I've almost bought the first two Bourne movies a few times now. But I'm holding out for the inevitable trilogy box set this winter. Can't wait, especially after seeing Ultimatum this weekend!

I think it is pretty cool that Planet Earth, both formats, is hanging tough with those other titles at a major difference in cost.

I'm tired of these graphs with misleading percentages. I'd like to see the raw sales numbers. A 2:1 sales lead ratio isn't so impressive when you discover that in reality there's only a few hundred copies difference between them.

Even if its a few thousand that is still nothing compared to DVD sales. We are a year and a half into the HD disc era and neither format matters to consumers.

I'm sure Casino Royale finally broke 100,000 copies, but compared to what? It probably sold over 4 million on DVD.

warners has reported that they have sold 250,000 copies of 300 in their first week. presumably that includes both formats.

I wonder if Nielsen is contractually constrained from reporting the raw numbers because the studios or stores don't want the numbers released? The low numbers might look bad...

It does. They didn't break out the percentage as to how many were sold on each format, although it's not hard to imagine that Blu-ray moved more copies just because it's such a strong fit with the PS3 install base. I wanted to see how many copies the DVD sold by comparison, but I could only quickly find a report about the combined HD DVD and Blu-ray numbers.

I'm guessing 300 would show an even higher ratio than the current ~1.9:1 because of the HD DVDs exorbitant retail price compared to the Blu-Ray and because 300 is the ideal movie for the majority of BD player owners.

I just want to know who the hell bought Premonition.

Knowing Universal I'm sure it's a done deal. They love to re-release the same stuff over and over again....cause they know were gonna buy it!

I wish they released the total number of units sold. I'm willing to bet that most titles don't sell jack shit, but still end up on the top 10.
