HD Portable DVD Player...

I watch most of my dvd collection on a portable dvd player. Does anyone know if they have made any HD-DVD or Blue Ray portable dvd players? If not are there any plans for such a player and if so what brand? Any info would be appreciated..

About the best you could do is a laptop with a BD drive. It will be crazy expensive.

If the formats takes off, I'd imagine portable players will appear, though I doubt you'll see much difference between DVD on a 7" screen. But at least you can watch the movie since you probably wouldn't have the DVD as well. I don't think they're economically viable for CE manufacturers at this point, as they would be hella expensive and that little case would need to put out some horsepower to play HDM discs.

Another reason I kinda dig the HD DVD combo format. At least for new releases that I don't already have the SD DVD for.

From what I've read Toshiba plans to put an HD-DVD drive in every laptop they make starting in 2008. Take that as a rumor, but I believe that's happening. Not sure what effect it will have on their laptop pricing.

I can see how the added resolution might make a difference on a laptop whose native resolution can actually display HD, but I can't imagine there will be a big market for standalone portable HD-DVD or Blu-Ray players. I would think having a screen that can display HD plus the drive would already put it in the same price range as a laptop.

I saw a pretty sweet Toshiba laptop in Best Buy the other day for under $1500.

Agreed - they don't limit me to one player.
