Is La Vie En Rose worth getting even though the songs are not subtitled? The Oscar win has got me interested in seeing it.

I saw about the first half hour of it. It's filmed in shaky-cam. I can't stand that style and never have understood why people film movies like that. I'm sure it is a great film other than that. The reviews are fantastic.

For anyone interested, XploitedCinema has the Japanese Danny The Dog (Unleashed) Blu-Ray in stock. It claims unrated cut and it has a TrueHD 6.1 track. Can't wait for my copy to ship...

Great news about "There Will Be Blood". Here's hoping the Blu-Ray release will be out in the U.S before then.

I'll probably import "The Orphanage". My girlfriend saw the movie and had nothing but good things to say about it.

I have updated the list for the 2008 upcoming foreign-language releases. If anyone has any suggestions how to organize the upcoming foreign releases of English-language productions please let me know (Should we keep the 2007 list? Should we start part 2 with all new and announced releases? Should we just list them as they come out? etc).

Appreciate the work you put into the list. I think the 2007 releases should be all lumped together. It took me a bit to figure out that August and September were last year.

Also, what are some good places to order non-UK discs from?

Ok. I am going to clean up the list shortly and put some suggestions for overseas/domestic retailers.

Critics are welcome to let me know how to best organize everything else.

Ok, take a look now at page 1. I have updated all of the new releases, added up my preferred stores for imports, and cleaned up the info for both categories, foreign-language films and all other overseas releases.

If anything needs to be changed, let me know, I would do it tomorrow.

Ciao,

anyone know if the upcoming French release of 'March of the Penguins' might have English subs? (I really like the original voice work/music and slightly longer cut of the film)

Pro-B, I noticed you have asterisks next to '07 release without English subs but the '08 releases have asterisks next to releases with English subs.

I don't understand the "shaky cam" aversion mentioned above (certainly no reason to avoid the flick). Unfortunately, however, this is an utterly conventional bio-pic, and Cotillard's performance is the only thing to recommend it.

Moreover, for non-French speakers, the lack of subtitles during the performances greatly undermines the impact of the songs. This is not a complicated thing, studios: if the lyrics are discernable, they should be translated just like the dialog, significant signage, letters, etc.

Not to get off topic too much, but shaky-cam movies and shows are distracting and give me headaches. It looks like a five-year-old is filming it with a handycam. I sat through "The Bourne Ultimatum" because I love that series, but that was the prime example of shaky cam. Perhaps I'm the only one that can't stand it.

Okay, now back to the topic...

Thanks for updating the releases Pro-B. Keep up the good work.

Also I noticed that Xploited Cinema has updated their Blu-Ray releases section with many import titles. Didn't even know a lot of those were scheduled to come out for Blu-Ray.

http://xploitedcinema.com/catalog/bl...iscs-c-36.html

*Abba: The Movie
*Almost Famous
*Capricorn One
*Perfume: Story Of A Murderer
*The Protege (Andy Lau)
*Revolver (Guy Ritchie)
*Sukiyaki Western Django (Takashi Miike)

+ a handful of others

I've been watching their site daily like a hawk for Danny The Dog - I pounced on it and my copy has already shipped. I figured it would be a popular one even at ~$42 given it is listed as the unrated cut, and only the R rated made it to HD DVD domestically.
