Upconverting Shootout - HD-A2 v. Sony NS75H
I have the Sony NS75H upconverting DVD player..I was wondering if anyone has seen the Toshiba's unconverting power compared to this Sony player. I might be tempted to go HD DVD IF the upconverting quality was SAME (not any worse) or Better, since I will primarily be using it I guess for regular DVD.

I used to own the NS85 (five-disc changer), and while it was pretty good, the A2 beats it hands down.

I have both of those in the media room right now. I popped in a DVD in the A2 and I was surprised at how good at looked. Granted, I didn't do an A to B comparison, but I had been using the Sony for months now and I think the A2 upscaling looked a little better. The only annoying thing is it takes 30 seconds before you eject the tray with the A2.

I don't know about the Sony but I think the Oppo 970 was rated better than the Sony you speak of, and I have an Oppo 970. The Oppo 970 I think did a bit of a better job deinterlacing some material but the overall picture quality is better on my A20, which is a member of the A2 family. I heard the A20 was better at upconvering than the A2 as well though.
