Feel free to wander over to AVS and look around. I won't go through dozens of threads and post links so you can say some other remark about a format I'm not even sure you own. If others can post outlandish rumors from "insiders" I don't see why I can't.

tonymontana313 10-22-07 12:54 PM

Rdjam is not an insider! He's just another fanboy.

But he has sources. Just like Kosty. Just like Beatboy. Just like most of the "insiders" everyone likes to post about. Amazing how none of these insiders had any clue about Paramount/Dreamworks deal though...right? We all know how "true" they are then.

Not just another fanboy... easily one of the most pathetic. I think he's pretty high on that blu-ray.com hitlist. :D2:

I got my add-on yesterday and used it last night. I was astonished how much quicker it is than my A2 (though that may be masked by the 360 booting up at the same time). It loaded like a regular dvd player in my opinion.

So now I guess you have to upgrade. -ptth-

newbie question: What is TL51?

Triple-layer HD DVD with 51GB of storage. This is contingent upon getting 17GB per layer vs. the 15GB they can get now.

Other uses for triple-layer discs are the Twin discs, which may be HD30/DVD5
or HD15/DVD9.

MSFTwill unveil a new version of Xbox 360 featuring a built-in HD-DVD player and HD tuner. The device might be officially unveiled during Bill Gates' keynote at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in January, which could be a bummer since it misses this upcominhg holiday shopping season.

Yeah, Sony was so right! Look how great they are doing in the console race! Being beaten by that silly Wii 7:1 and by Xbox 6:1. :eyesroll:

Just take a look at Septembers hardware #s

PlayStation 3 119.4K
Xbox 360 527.8K
Wii 501K

Supermallet 10-22-07 06:14 PM

It's a known fact that both the Wii and the 360 are outselling the PS3 by a wide margin. Whether it's 4:1 or 7:1, the PS3 is not doing what Sony wants it to do.

As for TL51, if it cannot play on G1 machines, I'm going to be pretty fucking pissed off, as I still own an HD-A1 and ONLY an HD-A1. So if Toshiba wants to pay for me to get an A-35, then I'll be fine with it.

Holy s*** someone still has an A1 :)

Ive owned the A1, A2, and now the A3. I really just need to stick with ONE flipping player (and I also own a 360 AO too)

Every time I think of replacing the A1, I always somehow change my mind. I know it's slow and has a few hiccups now and again, but I love the heavy build of the unit. It's still truckin'.

To be fair, you are quoting one of the 360's best months ever with the September numbers all thanks to the Halo juggernaut.

Very true, I was just quoting the most recent. If you did up the "count so far" Wii has a 7:1 while 360 is 6:1. Still, to this day, I have no idea if they ever count returned systems and then replacement ones sold as 1 or 2 sales. I managed a game store for a few years and never figured that one out, lol.

DthRdrX 10-22-07 06:37 PM

I'm still using the A1. Other than the start-up time its a tank.

You're damn right I still have an A1. I have some disposable income, but not enough to change my player every gen. I would like the A35 so I can bitstream DTS-HD MA, though.

Yeah,

I just don't want to sacrafic playing 5.1 TrueHD for the faster boot time.

steebo777 10-23-07 08:05 AM

I don't really get the boot time complaints. MY A2 with FW2.5 loads up an HD-DVD in under 30sec. By the time I get to my seat and comfy, everything is starting up as needed.

That's not the correct measure. It's from POWER ON to movie start, not disc insert to movie start. That process is well over one minute, closer to two.

What I do is hit the open button on my remote first. This powers up the player and then goes straight to the open door process. I've found it to be faster than powering up, waiting for that, then opening the drawer to load the disc. I have no complaints about my A1.

I was curious so I stop-watched my A2 (under non-scientific conditions). I powered on, ejected the tray & put the HD disc in. It took approx 1 minute 15 seconds from the time I powered on to the time the copyright message came up. Add another approx. 25 seconds to when the movie started. I didn't really count that since you always have copyright messages, the movie studio/distibutor logo, commercials, PSAs, trailers, etc. on almost every standard dvd (even standard...gasp!).

So 1 minute 15 seconds which includes ejecting the tray and putting the movie in. Woah. OMG! I can't believe I wasted my time with buying an HD player. That is sarcasm by the way. (Explained for those who can't quite grasp that concept nowadays.)

I timed it from already having the movie in without ejecting the tray from power on until it hit the copyright message: 45 seconds. I think I am going to throw out this player with the trash today (more sarcasm).
