There is no such issue. Most TV's will only accept 1080i over component, bu that's a limitation of the TV and not the Xbox. All 360 elites output 1080p over hdmi, and all 360's output 1080p over VGA.

Just watched Inside Man last night and have to say the PQ was quite excellent. Highly recommend this for anyone that does not have it yet.

Such a great movie too. It really grows on you I think.

Plus I absolutely love the opening titles and song.

Interesting....

"We reduced our HD DVD Toshiba player, the generation-two, to $198 earlier in the week,” Wal-Mart spokeswoman Melissa O’Brien told Fortune. “It’s happening now, and that’s really all I can tell you. We don’t give any information on what we’re planning to do for the holidays. We know HD DVD and Blu-ray are going to be popular items this holiday season for some of our customers. … They will be more popular this year than they were in previous years.”

O'Brien also dismissed rumors that Wal-Mart stores would only carry 18 units of the lower-priced Toshiba player.

“There are no limited quantities for stores or purchases," she told the publication.

Does anyone know the accurate figures for HD DVD sales of Transformers the first week it was available? I've heard conflicting reports and hope the release did well.

Thank you.

Toshiba should really try and get Wal-Mart to make the A2 one of the "trample-worthy" items for Black Friday. Say, A2's for $129. I'm sure many a shopper will be pushed and shoved for that price.

I would pick up one for my second tv for that price though I hate Wal-mart and wont shop there. Maybe BB or CC will have one that cheap or close.

jiggawhat 10-28-07 10:57 PM

Didn't see this mentioned anywhere but if you don't mind waiting in lines and getting your ass trampled, then Sears is the place for you. On Black Friday, they will have none other than the Toshiba HD-A3 for $169.99. That my friends is a hell of a deal. I will probably pick this up if I can get some riot gear because that place will be a mad house.

RichC2 10-28-07 11:10 PM

Is Sears really that big of a black friday place?

naitram 10-28-07 11:28 PM

Damn, maybe I'll sell my A2 soon and pick up an A3 then.

Yeah, it actually is. You could score on an HDTV and other electronics if you manage to survive the Britney Spears Crowd.

Drexl 10-29-07 05:55 AM

I could be wrong, but I'm not so sure these players will be that much in demand on BF, unless the supplies are very limited. It's still quite a niche market. Remember that many people are holding out on principle due to the format war, or have chosen to exclusively support BD. $99 might sway them, but $169? Plus, you need an HDTV to begin with, which many people (especially the moms that seem to populate BF the most) either still don't have, or only have one for the flatness and size. Does KMart/Sears even sell the discs yet? I know it's easy for us enthusiasts to get excited and see that it's a great price, but I think it's going to take another year or two before these things become a really hot item.

If the point is that you'll be trampled because of other items, now that would be different.

lizard 10-29-07 09:15 AM

^While I agree with you that HD is a niche market thus far and it seems unlikely that there would be a mad rush to the A3 table, I'd like to point out that Sears has been selling high def players and discs since the formats were launched. Sears doesn't get mentioned much here because they tend not to be as high profile as CC or BB for electronics.

CapRockBrewingCo. 10-30-07 10:17 AM

Looks like CC and Amazon are joining in on the A2 discount. <br>Link

Yes, previous years.

After not selling a single disc in 2005, I'm surprised the formats are still around this year. :)

Supposedly, Warner Brothers is having a last minute press conference tomorrow. Of course, speculation as to what is all over AVS today. There seems to be 3 different views on this.

VIEW 1 (HD DVD fanatics): WB's contract with BDA expires today, so tomorrow's announcement will be they are going HD DVD exclusive.

VIEW 2 (BD fanatics): The VP of WB's HD dept. was at the "Blu-ray Festival" yesterday and stating some very positive comments for BD, so tomorrow's announcement will be they are going BD exclusive.

VIEW 3 (sane fanatics): No exclusive announcements, but they will let everyone know their HD plans for Q4 and possible promotions involving Harry Potter.

I'm thinking we'll get something closer to VIEW 3 than the other 2.

I agree. Even if WB was to go BD exclusive in 2008, why would they intentionally endanger sales on the HD DVD format for some of their big Q4 releases?

Mr. Cinema 10-30-07 02:23 PM

If they were planning on picking 1 side in 2007, I think they would have done it sooner. November kicks off Christmas shopping season, so I also doubt they will want to kill some of their HDM sales. I do believe they will pick a side in 2008. I was confident it would be HD DVD, but now...who the hell knows. The VP was quoted as saying they were going to change their strategy from the dual format approach.

bunkaroo 10-30-07 02:32 PM

When the #1 selling HDM disc of all time is on BD and is outselling the HD counterpart ~2:1, I don't see how WB could not go Blu if they go exclusive.

Just because Paramount gave the impression they didn't make as much money on BD due to production costs doesn't mean WB has the same problem.

It will be interesting to see what the comparison #'s are for the Kubrick releases, as most would assume those films would skew towards the HD crowd and not the "PS3" crowd. Yet, I saw two different people of a younger age enthusiastically picking up a couple Kubrick's, especially FMJ.

The only reason I personally care if WB goes exclusive is if they go HD exclusive, I'd be given the unattractive option of only buying day and date WB discs as combos. Blech.

I have a question, tv box sets like Smallville and Stargate, they dont start at the beginning on this format yet? I see Smallville 5 & 6 and Stargate Atlantis. Has earlier ones be announced or do they want you to just watch them in standard dvd?

tonymontana313 10-30-07 02:43 PM

If I'm not mistaken, Smallville Season 1 is pegged for Q1 of next year.

The view is that more recent releases sell better than catalog.
