Do I have a problem with my HD-A2?

I recently purchased an HD-A2 player. It exhibits two behaviors that I'm slightly worried about, as I don't know if they're normal for this player.

First, when I turn it on or off, my TV will flash green for less than a second.

Second, I could not get it to turn off via either the remote or power button on the unit. This only happened once.

Does anyone have any information about this?

What firmware are you running? Have you upgraded to 1.6?

First issue sounds like either a non-issue or a HDCP display issue, neither or which I'd worry about.

Second doesn't seem like a problem but an anomaly.

I have not upgraded the firmware yet. Is that recommended?

Sounds good to me. I was concerned perhaps it was overheating and freezing, but it may have just been a problem with that particular disc.

I would. A lot of things are corrected with every release.

I've encountered an issue similar to the second problem once with my HD-A2. When it happened to me I had just inserted an HD-DVD and closed the tray and then shortly after the tray closed, I pressed the power button. The unit display just stayed stuck on "Loading" but never loaded the disc nor turned off as requested. I figure it got caught in some race condition that caused it to hang. I was running 1.6 at the time but it hasn't occurred again.

I've got two A2's and they both do the quick green flash. I wouldn't worry about that particular bug.

Even though I don't have an A2, I do have a regular DVD player that exhibits this green flash so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

That green flash could just be the way you guys' sets handle the signal loss as well. Perhaps you should all be sharing those manufacturers as well.

I've had an issue with that 'Green Screen' thing ever since I upgraded to 2.1 (way back when) and I mentioned it in post #580 on page 24 in digitalfreaknyc's 'Toshiba HD DVD firmware news and discussion' thread:

Other than that the discs play beautifully without any other problems.

Thinking that I somehow didn't get it all, I've been trying to download it again, but I keep getting that BLASTED, "Cannot Find Out Server" message.

(That's NOT a type-o on my part, but it's exactly what it says! )

At least you know it REALLY exists!

Good Luck!

Then I upgraded to 2.2 and it started to do that 'Flash' thing and posted about it in post #591:

Last night, at the end of the evening (just before the system shut down), it did that green screen again, but this time it flashed (like a strobe-light) 5 or 6 times before the green dots froze and then the screen went black.

...but the movies played flawlessly, and that's all that matters anyway! Green screen, strobe light, raining matrix dots, or not...my XA1 Still KICKS MY ARSE!!!

In Post #599, I posted some pictures:

Here's 5 pictures I just took (one right after the other) until the player shut off and the screen went black (So, I'd say it lasted around 10 seconds...one picture every 2 seconds, I figure...):

After taking the pictures and getting to actually see them in, 'freeze frames' (as it were), it looks more like a green cactus, well, either that, or that 'Shrek' character has been plucking his leg hairs inside MY player!

...is that covered under the warrantee?

( )

So there ya have it!

I still don't know what it's all about, however, it only happens when I'm shutting the unit off and then either going to sleep, or watching something on ye ol' PS3, Sony HDMI 5-changer, DVL-91, or cable, and has become rather unimportant and I hardly even notice it anymore.
