Audio loss with HD discs?

For the time being I'm using my TV's volume instead of a sound system. There is a HUGE difference in sound when I try to watch a BluRay or HD-DVD disc. Watching TV or playing the 360, my TV volume is usually at 12 or so. When I watch a BR or HD disc, I have the sound at 50, and still find myself raising an ear to hear what's being said at times.

Is there a reason that the volume is so low in comparison to regular TV? Do you guys have to juice up your volume this much?

Thanks,

~S2

My sound is connected to a receiver. On the 360 HD DVD add on, I have to crank it way up, even after the update, for listenable sound. I have to turn the PS3 down from normal settings when I watch a BD.

Yeah, the 360 add-on seems worse for me, but I do have to crank my PS3 up as well, just not as much.

What about when you PLAY the 360? Is the sound way louder in comparison to the add-on?

I have exactly the same thing. My add-on is quite low but the 360 itself has a reasonable voulme. My PS3 is running on a different TV without the receiver. I find it quite better than the add-on for the 360. One thing I notice is a huge difference in sound coming from my TV speakers when I select Lossless PCM audio on Blu-rays. Really great sound, especially Casino Royale.

Yeah, the 360 is far louder when I'm playing it than when I'm using the add-on.

I don't have much of a problem with mine. The audio is about the same, though I tend to like to watch movies a little louder than normal TV. But I don't have a 360 addd-on either.
