Need A1 advice.....please!

I've had my A1 for quite a while now and have been very happy with it. Recently I have had some issues occasionally with it locking up requiring me to disconnect power to regain control. There was also one occasion where it kept shutting itself off every few minutes while we tried to watch The Hitcher. That only happened on that one film.

This week I got my 2.2 upgrade CD in the mail and I thought it may help fix any bug that may be causing this. I followed the instructions carefully and started the upgrade. I returned to the room and was horrified to find the player shut down and the tray still closed. It now just hangs on the welcome screen indefinitely and is useless. I tried disconnecting power and restarting several times and still it just hangs on the welcome screen. The upgrade CD is of course still inside.

Is there anything that I can do to try to regain control of my unit? With all of the warnings about not disrupting power during the upgrade I'm of course really concerned that it shut itself off. I did not lose power during the process so I know it did it itself. I have an extended warranty.

I don't have an A1, but this sounds like the firmware might be corrupted. This happened to me when I tried to update a Phillips player.

Anybody know exactly how to manually eject the CD? I found what looks like a release when holding the door open but it isn't working.

Might have to use the butter knife trick.

Does your drive have the very small hole that you can use a paperclip or nail that you could force in to eject the drive?

Great idea. Nazz, remove the shell and locate the actual drive. If it's like all other PC based drives, this should work.

I'm trying to avoid cracking open the case because it may void my extended warranty. I don't see the standard little hole on the face of the drive when I hold open the door. I do see a 'thing' on the lower right side that I don't see any other purpose for but I haven't been able to accomplish a manual eject by fiddling with it.

I sure hate to send this unit off for who knows how long if this is something I can resolve.

GRRRRRRRRR!

I've got an XA1, and there's a hole under the right side of the drive.

*edit* I meant right, not left. And I just saw that you don't have a hole.
