Now that I have both a Blu Ray player and HD-DVD (via my Xbox 360), Im finding it extremely difficult to rent BR and HD-DVD movies. I belong to Blockbuster Online but they NEVER have those movies in stock and ready to ship.

How is Netflix? Do they have BR and HD movies in stock or is there a long wait for them?

They are awesome!! I've received several new release movies the day after the release date. There are some newer releases that list at Long Wait, but I have received movies that have had that status as well. I keep around 80-100 movies in my queue, so there's always something coming that I want, AND, for me at least, it's one day to get here/there.

I don't rent a great deal of HD or BR but when I do they never seem to have any long wait.

i had netflix before and loved it. i always got the HD movies right away. i am trying out blockbuster right now and i have definitely noticed a difference with the HD movies. just seems like they have way less stock of those movies. for now i can live with it because i do enjoy the in-store exchange program.

I always get them immeadiatley. I'm very happy with it.

I only have HD-DVD but I get them the day after they ship. Only got one that was too scratched, but I reported it and got a replacement the next day. Love em! Even new releases I get immediately.

Netflix is great. I do SD-DVD and HD-DVD from them and have not had any "long wait" or "very long wait" since Christmas.

But with HD-DVD, for me and my A1, if it's even SLIGHTLY scratched it's not going to play all the way through. The newer releases are better for me. The older ones, like The Italian Job, won't play all the way through.

I have sent it back with a 'damaged' flag 4 times. All 5 that I have gotten back are scratched to hell and will freeze at one point. I've made it about halfway through the movie so far. I'm going to stop trying.

I'm glad this thread came up. Our NF sub is over and we were thinking about BB, but if I can't get HDDVD and BD as fast as with NF, I'll just stay with them.

I've never waited at all for HD DVDs from Netflix. Perhaps I just don't request the popular titles but Netflix has been going down my queue top to bottom without skipping any.

Only had one HD DVD that was scratched enough that it affected playback on my A1 and I was still able to watch the entire movie so I didn't report it. I've been pleased with Netflix.

I have had both for some time. Had Blockbuster with 3 titles and Netflix with 3 titles for the last 6 months. Both good and bad to be had with both really. I have HD-dvd and Blu-Ray as well as a Blockbuster close by (and one a little farther that has a pretty awesome selection of BluRay and Hd-dvd). Netflix has EVERYTHING and they have it the day it is released. Blockbuster trails behind badly there, and most of the new generation stuff is on wait. However, with Blockbuster total access (and Netflix's continual throttling if you send back your movies quickly) you can get a lot of movies with Blockbuster. Depends on what you want.

Same here. Had even Children of Men HD-DVD and other "boiled" disks work the first time from Netflix. Get them fast and always in stock.

I was using Netflix then switched back to BB. I never have a long wait on any new release titles from BB, but they are slow about adding some HD discs. They still don't have Apocalypto on Blu-ray yet.

What is the status now of renting HD-DVD and BDs?

Which is better - Netflix or Blockbuster?

I know Blockbuster has announced they are backing BD, have they changed the HD-DVDs they offer?

I don't even know if my local Blockbuster is carry HD titles yet since the the backing announcement.

Without a single doubt - Netflix by a large, large margin. I get practically any title I want from NF, BD or HD-DVD, without any wait at all. BB has been atrocious, nearly every similar title on long or very long wait.

BB gave me two months @ $5.99 to give them a chance to get better but I will probably dump them before then. NF owns them.

I use Netflix for my BD movies and am happy with them. The only problem I run into sometimes is that it takes a while to get some new releases, but I get over it since there are plenty of other availble BD's.

I think it also depends if there's a shipping center near you, and how many people in that area are HD supporters. I live near Pittsburgh, and it's next day shipping for me. I don't think there are too many Pittsburgh HD'ers out there because I almost never have to wait for anything. There have been, however, a few movies that were apparently out of stock locally & they shipped from South Carolina, Utah, and even California once. I didn't mind the extra day or two on those because they were new releases, and at least they got them to me somehow. I have the 3/time package and I could easily get 9 movies a week if I could watch them that fast. As it stands, I usually watch 4-6 a week. Netflix is awesome.

I wonder about that, though. I live in Brooklyn and get all my discs from the Flushing (Queens) distribution center, and I've never had a wait yet for any HD DVD discs. I don't own Blu-Ray, so I couldn't speak to that.

Perhaps this center is very large?
