Blu-Ray on the Xbox 360? Not gonna happen.
Just want to clear up a few things surrounding several erroneous stories regarding alleged comments from Peter Moore about Xbox 360 supporting Blu-ray. Simply put...These reports are completely incorrect.
Some online media outlets have picked up this story and are citing Internet speculation of an alleged Associated Press story that does not exist, along with comments taken out of context from a story in ITmedia that appeared back in January. This information is being reported as news and as a result of a recent interview, neither of which are true.
In an interview with ITmedia back at CES in January of this year, Peter said Xbox 360 has the flexibility to adapt to consumers' needs, allowing Microsoft to add features as consumers demand them - as evidenced by the offering of the HD DVD Player as an accessory.
It is important to understand the context in which that statement was made. We firmly stand behind the HD DVD format as the best choice for consumers. Current reports indicating that Microsoft has a back-up plan, which includes Blu-ray support are incorrect. We're fully committed to HD DVD and have absolutely no plans to support other optical formats.

From: Bruce Campbell invented the internet...and pants.
It's amazing how flat out lies can turn into "rumors" and fly off the shelf. Supposedly a guy heard it from a guy who knows a guy married to a girl who's brother works at 31 flavors. Anyone who has any money remotely invested in HDDVD should have smelled the lies from a mile away. Why would MS support BD when the primary code for just HDDVD is written into their very own Vista? Not to mention they've sold tens of thousands of HDDVD addons for the 360 (me included)? Sounds like another Sony paid shill started this.

If people had functioning brains corrections like this would not have to be made. It has been pretty obvious from the beginning that MS was fully behind HD DVD.

Yeah, doesn't make much sense to support a format by your main competitor.

If third parties aren't even allowed to make wireless controllers, I highly doubt it.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't notice that much difference on HD-DVD with my XBOX 360 attachment from regular DVD. A tad bit of difference, but nothing to really write home about.

The 360 is connected via component, so I'm getting 1080i on both the 360 and the Oppo.
Gone are any ringing, artifacting, etc. The expanded color palette is also obvious, especially on scenes like the sunset on Skull Island in Kong. Haven't done any real audio comparisons yet, but it sounds great, esp. since the audio fix update came out.
Now, I'm not about to go rebuy all of my DVDs when they come out on HD-DVD, but I'll certainly lean that way for new releases and favorite older releases, especially those with dark scenes. I plan on getting the Riddick movies, Land of the Dead, and The Thing next, and I have the Matrix trilogy on order.
I'd LOVE to get my hands on Gladiator and the LOTR series, as they are a)very rewatchable and b)have lots of dark and highly detailed scenes that will look great in HD.

It's more noticable the more you watch it (or it was for me anyway.)
