Help me set up my PS3

Just finally got around to doing it, and I have no picture. Pretty sure this is an HDMI thing. But before doing crazy stuff, I wondered if anyone else has run into this and whether or not you have to first set it up to display via hdmi, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

you need to set the ps3 to use hdmi out by using the composite (yellow) rca first

No you certainly do not. I have only ever had my HDMI hooked up from my PS3 and set up right out of the box that way.

When are you gonna ask some simple questions?

So....no help then.

Anyone have it hooked up via a switcher? I am using a monoprice switcher.

My PS3 didn't work with the 5x1 monoprice switcher with remote. Which are you using?

Hey Mallet Man!

I know you're not talking to me but I'm using my monoprice x3 switcher w/remote and it works GREAT!

Even though my KDS50A2000 has 2 HDMI inputs, I'm using one for the switcher and the other one for a 5 changer HDMI Sony I bought a while back for watchin' some SD's when I get lazy.

I've got my Cable Box on #1, the PS3 on #2, and my XA1 on #3.

Hey Dave!

From the settings menu on the PS3 it says something like, 'BD/DVD Settings', then when I click it, it opens a sub menu that says, 'BD/DVD Video Output Format (HDMI)', and mine says 'Automatic', so it should just 'work'.

It takes a few seconds for it to KICK IN.

(Mine does anyway...)

Hope this helps.

BTW: ISN'T IT B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L???

I had my PS3 connected with component cables first, and then I connected the HDMI cable. While in component, I adjusted the settings to display using HDMI, and simply just switched my TV from comp, to HDMI. I don't think my PS3 came set up, out of the box, to HDMI.

I didn't use component cables, but just plugged the HDMI cable in and BAMMM!!! I got a picture.

Okay, I bypassed the switcher, so that must be the problem. A problem I don't want to have. Anyone know how to get rid of this problem? It is the 5xhdmi monoprice. My new receiver that is coming has 2 hdmi in and one out, so that may be the work around, but I have the same issue with my Dish vip622. If I am not on the switch for it, it will blank out and I have to do a hard reset. That is a recent devlopment since a firmware upgrade.

Found this doing a little googling
Monoprice also carries a 5x1 HDMI switch. If you have a PS3, it only works on port 5 for some reason as found out by several PS3 owners at the AVSforum.
After the update loads, I'll try that.

No dice. Doesn't work from the #5 spot.

I suppose I will wait until my receiver shows up and see it is will work directly plugged into that. I will still have the dish vip622 issue, though, but since it came from an update, I am hoping it will go away with an update. Wish like hell there was something less tempermental than hdmi. I sure don't understand why a switch would ever be a problem.

Dave, sounds like you have the same switcher I tried. I couldn't get the PS3 to work on any port, although trying all of the ports couldn't hurt.

My KDL-40V2500 also has two HDMI inputs. I've got my cable box on a DVI->HDMI switch running to input 1, and then my PS3/HD-A1 hooked up to input 2, and I switch the HDMI cable between the two devices. I run my 360 on component input 1, and my Wii on component input 2. My PS2 goes off the S-Video component. I'm planning on getting an HDMI-enabled receiver for my birthday, so that should alleviate my switching problems.

Just tried it on every port and no luck. This is quite annoying.

I sent back my switcher for a refund.

I now just use a single HDMI cable that runs from the input to either my PS3 or my HD-A1. I switch the cable to the hardware I need when I need it. I know, it's a hassle to get up for two seconds and physically move a cable, but somehow I manage.

Once I get an HDMI receiver, I'll use that for switching.

That would be a serious pain with the way I am set up, unfortunately. Not to mention that it would defeat the purpose of getting a universal remote.

Hopefully the new receiver takes care of the situation.

Dave this is what you get for getting a 5 way switch and not having 5 HDMI capable devices. H8.

I am exchanging emails at a rate of 1 per day with monoprice. My receiver has shipped, so I am waiting on that as well.

Well if its any comfort, I have mine hooked up through my reciever with an HDMI to DVI cord and I had no problem so you should have no issues. The only thing that sucks is that my reciever only has 2 inputs and I need 3. Oh well, I just switch out my A1 and cable box when needed (but that is a pita).

Hey FvsD!

Long time no blab!

(...and if ya don't respond to this post, it'll be even longer! )

Hey! Ya still livin' behind my house on the hill? I haven't been around since I moved onto my houseboat.

But seriously, folks...

Why not just use a HDMI switcher?

I seriously (& even sincerely) don't understand all the problems folks are having with the switchers.

I just plugged mine in and it worked. I even (just last night) switched all the HDMI cables around to different inputs and they all worked.
