Planet Earth

The first two episodes of this Discovery miniseries have been spectacular.

The standard dvd is available for pre-order on their website, anybody hear anything on it being released in HD?

Ack.
The HDdvd will have none of the extras that the SD dvd will have - that, and they're about $20 more expensive. With shenanigans like this, it's no wonder these new formats aren't taking off.

The BBC America store lists the HDDVD as 4-Disc with a 9hr running time but the BluRay as 5-Disc with 13 1/2 hr running time.

HD-DVD link

Blu-ray link

Does anyone know if this is correct, is the HDDVD missing something?? I had it preordered but might have to think again!!

When you click on "View More Photos" link under the picture on BBC Store pages, both of the enlarged front covers state "4 Disc Set" on the bottom left corner.

will not purchase unless the HD-DVD set gets the extra footage like the regular dvd set. Pretty disapointed if this is true.

I think the complete Amazon description says it has 1.5 hours not seen on the Discovery Channel.

AFAIK the specs for the BD/HD are the same, they will have only David Attenborough as narrator, and won't have the 11min extra material after each episode (don't ask me why). They also won't offer the BD/HD sets the 3hr+ documentary material provided with the SD-DVD set, so both HD/BD sets should be only 4 Discs, even though we're paying $20+ more than the SD set.

I personally would complain to Warner about not providing the extra material, even on SD-DVD (there's no reason they cannot just throw the disc in there) considering we're paying more for it, if I could figure out who to complain to.
