I'm posting this here since no thread even remotely critical of moderation/management is allowed to stand over there. It's immediately deleted.

Earlier today a long-time member who isn't invested in either format made a lengthy rational plea to the moderators to clamp down on the rude and snide remarks on the part of fanboys. He didn't point it to one side or the other, but rather both sides equally.

Amongst other replies, I added a response stating my experience that when I had posted or PMed the moderators similarly about the current state of affairs and the lack of willingness on the part of the moderators to rein in some of the outright derision and venom on the part of certain members, that I was told in no uncertain terms by a moderator to stop my whining and if I didn't like the moderation I was welcome to leave.

Well, that thread is now gone.

For some reason the moderators over there do not see any problem with fanboys posting crude insults about HD-DVD, it's owners, or even format-neutral members. Some of the BR regulars ONLY ever post in order to throw fecal matter at HD-DVD. Add to this the myriad of paid BR viral marketing newbies and crossovers from the PS3 forums and it's one giant free-for-all with BR piling on HD-DVD.

What's even more disturbing is the latest strategy that the AVS moderators are stupid enough to fall for:

Someone makes a post that is postive about HD-DVD in the HD-DVD subforums (not in the BR forums or the software media forum). Immediately a host of BR fanboys swarm the post, making attacks and insults. The thread is closed or deleted outright.

The problem with this is that the moderators don't penalize the BR fanboys for doing it. They're permitted to continue doing so on a repeated basis. So anytime there is discussion about something positive for HD-DVD, all the BR fanboys have to do is swarm until the thread is deleted, and they're successful in shutting down the discussion.

The blu stench over there is overwhelming. You cannot have any discussion anywhere that is either pro-HD-DVD or pro-neutrality without having some viral marketing NEWBIE or BR fanboy stinking up the thread.

It's gone past the point of no return... the environment needs more heavy-handed and even moderation... and I don't see that happening.

More folks should come over here for even-tempered discussion.

Completely agree. There was a short period of time where it was interesting for information. It just completely sucks now.

100% complete agreement. AVS is a shithole and the moderators over there are complete douchebags. Every fucking one of them.

Not only do they let the extreme, fanatical Blu-ray boys say anything and everything, they allow 50 threads on the exact same subject to stay active. It's gone all to hell over there. I like both formats, but some of the members there makes you want to wish BD would lose.

I agree that the moderating over there is a joke. This new idea of deleting problematic threads is pretty sad. Also, simply closing a thread and saying "next time take the high road" or "another one bites the dust" does nothing to prevent more of these types of threads to occur and has proven to be as ineffective as a moderation tool as it gets. Give the trolls a warning first, then a brief suspension, then if they still can't get it through their skull ban the bastards. I suspect if they did that there'd be a couple dozen members banned within a day. Some of them can't seem to do anything but troll. IMO the mods are the reason why that place has went downhill so drastically. They need to get some mods that will actually remove the bad apples.

He seems overly enthusiastic but there's big fish to fry at AVS IMHO.

I disagree. He's overly exuberant and comes across as a bit of a cheerleader, but he tends to spend more time extolling BR than denigrating HD-DVD. He also doesn't resort to namecalling. He's not the problem... although I must say that he's the equivalent of what user Oshodi was on the HD-DVD side, and the moderators banned him. Hardly fair play.

It's pricks like Rob Zuber, Bob Meridian, and nyg that are some of the worst offenders, along with a host of newbies that haven't been there long enough to develop a persona.

Another thing that is annoying is a BR fanboy tossing out a vile insult and then putting a wink smiley behind it somehow makes it all ok in the eyes of the moderators.

Guys. If there's an issue you have with AVS, then bring it up with AVS. It's not cool to bring the discussion here where the AVS management can't really reply.
