HD DVD Custom Covers

With HD DVD covers being filled with various forms of faux metal and sometimes 'imperfect' artwork, I figured I would try my hand at creating some possible alternatives. I was originally intending to create a whole site around the subject, but do not have the time or content to really set one up at the moment. So, I figured a thread at DVD Talk would be pretty appropriate. With piracy non-existent in the HD DVD realm, I'm particularly happy with this project as it can be seen as what it simply is: the combining of a love of movies and a love of graphic design. Any input on the whole ordeal (and the covers themselves) would be very welcomed. Enjoy!

Special thanks to Josh Z. for his big help in the process (and advice as to which forum this thread would be best suited for).

One thing to note is that I have included a small cutting border around the images to make things a little easier... just so there are no surprises.

EDIT:

The below covers are all available at:
http://bunnydojo.com/HD/
This was just to make management and linking easier. There are no ads and no account sign-up or anything like that is necessary... just straight downloads.

Most Recent Additions:

Replacement HD DVD Cases can be found for between $0.75 and $0.56 at:
http://www.sleevetown.com/ Use code BIG15 for 15% off your order. Just tell them Bunny Dojo sent you. (They'll have no idea what you're talking about. )

And a nice variety of additional HD DVD and Blu-Ray customs can be found at:
http://www.eaprogramming.com/ in the Downloads section

I like these...hopefully the mods will let you keep this thread here in the HD forums and not make you move it to the covers forum.

So this is why you've been putting off my projects....

I see how it is.

Well, I guess I helped start this monster. I have to live with it.

They look great, as usual.

Go for it. I'm hearing The Brothers Grimm and Finding Neverland (one of digi's requests, if I remember?) would probably be helpful, so I'd be happy to give those a try sometime next week. As long as I can get the necessary info, I don't mind seeing what I can do... with releases being so sparse, it isn't too daunting to allow the possibility of requests.

I'm glad to hear some positive comments so far (especially on Equlibrium, as that front image is hand-drawn and the rest of the covers is just screen caps) . I'll keep going with the matching spines, as they seem to be generally accepted. Other than that, I hope you enjoy what's there and I should have more in the near future. Any ideas on the covers or the format of this thread are very welcomed.

Any chance for Running Scared? The digipak isn't doing much for me.

Replacement art for any and every Buena Vista Blu-ray is a necessity.

While I agree the fronts look bad, the double-sided looks awesome....Can we do that with customs?

I love the idea of the scene selection on the other side (ala Reign of Fire).

You can always just put the cover art in the case on top of the original art.

Bingo....didnt think of that.

I wish more of the studios would do this double-sided covers.

That said, I wish WB would start releasing more collector's sets in hd format. I loved the tin for The Departed at Best Buy. I wish we had the option to get the hd-dvd or bd in it. I guess thats too much to ask at this point.

I bought one anyways for a collectors item.

Yep. I just started doing this to my blu covers. Particularly the Reign of Fire one I just did. I had to make the custom bigger to match the original one. A bit of the original cover is still visible from underneath but a little trim fixed that.

Nice covers Bunny. The Equilibrium is different for sure. Kinda reminds me of the Buckaroo Banzai novel cover.

Great work. It would be great if someone could make one for Total Recall without the French language and the backwards title on the spine.

If you get a chance, any thoughts on making a xXx HD DVD cover so I can get rid of the oversized Japanese case?

These are awesome

These are all really cool, especially the Riddick and Derailed ones.

Bourne Supremacy looks a bit washed out (the paper looks like tissue paper) but the overall layout is great. The Equilibrium one is cool too -- did you do the silhouette through Illustrator? Props. The background I'm not too hot on. Looks a bit too bland or lacks the proper "gunmetal" feel.

Nice overall. Very nice.

Ihave been in Costa Rica and Nicaragua for the last 2 months so I have been like non existant on this forum so I am a little late to this thread but I think this is a brilliant idea. I have actually been searhing the net on many occasions loking for someting like this that you ddint have to pay for. I actually was thinking about doing something like this myself but I am entering my busy season for work and just dont have the time for it.

So as late as my reply is, I would love to see you do as many titles as you can and I think what you have done thus far looks great, far better than the BS we get for the retail version. I still am in utter shock that the people who work for these studios dont see the same problems we see with the official artwork.

Great idea, i am behind it 100% and thank you for all of the effort you have put in and would continue to put into a project like this. I for one really appreciate it!!
